Sometimes QF can actually be cheaper. It was for the Perth final last year.

Flying as far as Perth on QF is a million times better. You get big comfy seats in wide bodied plane (767, Airbus or even a 747! ), get fed a normally yummy meal, & have access to the movie console thing. On my trip over last September I watched Kenny the Movie & Jindabyne. By the time you had eaten & the movie finished the trip was more or less over!

I'll worry about away match flights when the A-League is over. Also Air Hatley will be taking off at discounted rates from April for $20 one way per trip (Go the work car! )

Will try & fly to adelaide for the Crows game, as Hatley is superstitious & won't take the flags in his car again. But all the other games, I'm THERE!

That Pies one in September, how massive could that be. I could easily see 75-80000 turn up to that one, including 15000+ in red & white!

Not always. However, when I fly, I always fly with whoever is cheapest. Sometimes its is Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar, or at times the car. It also depends how many are flying and to where.

I'm the same, except I don't fly Death* because of it's location at Avalon. I've done it once, and won't do it again unless I'm desperate or going to Geelong for a game.
For me, every $$ counts, so whoever is cheapest between Qantas and Virgin gets my business. Needless to say I haven't flown Qantas since July 05'.

When my kids fly over to Melb from Adelaide, Jetstar is usually the cheapest, but they come in at Avalon. However, with the parking being heaps cheaper, and closer to the terminal, the extra 30 mins each way in the car isn't to bad given that it's freeway all the way.

But if you don't have anyone to pick you up, it could be a bit costly. I should start up a charter service!

I mostly fly Deathstar, as the in-laws live in Geelong, where I get free accomodation

However, other times I usually fly Virgin, so long as it's the cheapest. For a short flight (1-2 hours), IMO there's sod all difference between the airlines... However for the longer flights, Qantas starts to look a lot more attractive...

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

You have to pay extra to get a seat, inside the vehicle.

The http://www.sunbusaustralia.com.au/ from Avalon is $18 one way. The www.skybus.com.au from Tullamarine is $14 one way. $4 extra there GS! Even I can afford that!

Considering that the flight with Jetstar can often save you over $50 just for a one way sector SYD-MEL(AVV), if you have the time to kill, & can be assured of being at the airport on time, go with Jetstar. When flying SYD-ADL you are using the same terminal as the others anyway, so it makes little difference.

More often than not when I'm on early flights to Melbourne I have heaps of time to kill. So the 45 minute express bus trip from Avalon fills things in nicely.

                        PS:- 6am flights still suck!

When I booked my tkts to Melb, Qantas were $50 cheaper than Virgin.

I flew Deathstar once ... never, ever, ever again - I'd rather drive.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

MY teenage daughters prefer it to Virgin. Although the first time they were coming in to land at Avalon, they wondered where the airport was, the comment was along the lines of, "We couldn't see the airport so we thought we were going to land in the middle of nowhere."
