...there isn't much more to football than a flag. The bulldust thread got me thinking a bit about why I was @@@@@@ off with Roos' comments post-GF that went along the lines of "there is more to life than football and those who can't get over the loss should get a life". Of course Roos would say that - why would he, as losing coach, want any post-match discussion at all. Out coached on the day, failing to arrive at the MCG with a switched on side, and other things were only discussed by the insane and the tragic. What a way to hide, what a way to avoid the criticism, what a way to slide away from any responsibility for failure... Roos still @@@@s me to tears.

Mate, give it a rest. Your "along the lines of" quote sounds awfully like a misquote. IIRC that's nothing like what Roos actually said at all.
Or perhaps you should be laying into ROK then? "I"ve lost bigger things than this. I'm still going to wake up tomorrow and the sun will be up."Comment

i just wan't to know why you have such a disliking for Paul Roos? Clearly you have an agenda with this guy and if you do why don't you take it up with him personally instead of being an antagoniser on this site or in a public forum?
i know you like to push the boundaries RL but now its like an obsession of yours when it comes to Paul Roos.
FWIW just appreciate with having one of the best coaches in the league with a level head on his shoulders.
Or do you wan't us to get a Dean Laidley type who seems to be on edge all the time?Comment

Swans coach Paul Roos was philosophical post-match, saying he was disappointed but also expressing great pride in his team.
"I couldn't be prouder of the team," he said.
"Based on the two games, they probably deserved one and we deserved one - or we deserved two and they deserved two.
"It would have been devastating for them to go down today.
"I'm philosophical - if we had lost last year and this year I probably wouldn't be sitting here, I probably would have hung myself in the rooms.
"It's just footy, that's life."
Now read ROK Lobster's "quote" - totally different, right?
And I was just trying to point out the hypocrisy of ROK Lobster's comments with ROK's quote. Losing a grand final is important, but for some people it's not THE most important thing in the world.
Edit: just to clarify, the sun comes up quote was spoken by Ryan O'Keefe, not Paul Roos.Last edited by Brandon; 24 January 2007, 09:23 PM.Comment

IMHO it's important to look at the time these comments were made - right after a GF loss. It was possibly a coping mechanism, to try and not dwell on the defeat at the time because there was nothing they could do after the fact. I would imagine that being so near would be driving alot of the players over the pre-season now some time has passed and the pain of the loss is not as acute.
Just speculation on my part, but that would be my guess.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I think you'll find those were my words ROKL, not Roosey's.
I'm first to bag Roosey (or any of the team for that matter ... no-one is above bagging!). By the same token, I probably yelled loudest for him to become our coach.
Honestly, I reckon he's doing a great job. He's (was) backed up by a strong assistant coaching team, and he has a pack of players who respect him and who will do anything for him ... not much different to when he was actually playing. I know I respect him and if he needed me, I'm there.
Out of sheer curiousity ROKL, can I ask, what do you think he should have said after losing the GF?
At least he doesn't suffer from verbal diarrhoea like Mick Maltmouth. I think he handled himself very well.
Mate, things could be way worse ... we could have Sheedy as our coach!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

This was one that got away and one that we had a great chance of winning. WC were probably the better side out there over 4 qtrs but we showed in the 2nd half what we were capable of. We lost it in the first half. Sure WC played some good footy but we took too long to get into the game. Why? To be honest I do not really know at this stage - perhaps we had the boys too relaxed pre-match, maybe we took an edge of them, I don't really know. But whatever it was we did something wrong and it has potentially cost us a flag. It hurts a lot, it hurts the players a lot, and I understand that it must the fans a lot too. We live and learn. While I am proud of the way the boys fought back I am also disappointed that we did not get it right from the start and that we blew it. We are not going to give it too much thought now. We will get away, have a good break, and address it when we come back for the pre-season, hungry for success in 2007, looking to get back the one that got away.Comment
