Yes, at the point when you plan to watch it's not an available option but that's because you've previously passed up the option to purchase it.

That's like saying that for people living in Sydney going to the football to see the Swans is not an option for them if they choose not to go.

Here is the list of the Swans matches that are "exclusive" to Foxtel/Austar (but will get shown LIVE thoughtout NSW/ACT, on either 7 or 10 depending on the day of the match)

2 Saturday, April 6 Richmond MCG (Day)
3 Sunday, April 15 Brisbane Lions SCG (Early)
6 Saturday, May 5 Kangaroos Telstra Dome (Night)
8 Sunday, May 20 Port Adelaide SCG (Early)
9 Sunday, May 27 Western Bulldogs Manuka Oval (Early)
11 Saturday, June 9 Hawthorn MCG (Day)
14 Sunday, July 8 Freemantle SCG (Early)
15 Sunday, July 15 Carlton SCG (Early)
17 Saturday, July 28 Richmond SCG (Night)
18 Sunday, August 5 Melbourne Manuka Oval (Early)
19 Saturday, August 11 St. Kilda Telstra Stadium (Night)
20 Saturday, August 18 Brisbane Lions Gabba (Night)
22 Sunday, September 2 Hawthorn SCG (Early)

A total of 13 games on Fox Sports 1, so Melbourne based Swans fans have to either get Foxtel or stick with the 8 games on FTA (plus the two games from Canberra shown on replay later that night) that we have ended up. Not a good outcome at all.
          Once was, now elsewhere

Foxtel costs $37 a month. Even dole bludgers can afford that. I know this because I was once on the dole, and had Foxtel.

It?s $8 a week dude. If you are sharing a house its $4 a week each.

Off topic, but I have to comment on this for absolute hilarity. A self-serving post, by an anonymous poster, in order to launch an attack on another anonymous poster, in the context of a debate about whether the ABC should be privatised, is evidence that the assertions in that post are true?

We don't want the @@@@ing basic package.
              Let me spell it out.
              I do not want Foxtel.
If I got Foxtel it would be solely for the footy.
Therefore I would be paying $30 a month for something I don't want and then $10 or whatever for the footy which I do want.
It would be stupid to pay $40 a month for 6 months and the $30 a month until the contract ends to see 5 games of football.

              @@@@ Foxtel.

Better to be spoilt with Sydney games in Sydney than spoilt with AFL in Melbourne and miss 1/4 of Sydney games IMO.

It is Sydneysiders who have been spoilt.
You can watch a live game and not have to travel to the ground.
Or you can see it deleyed.
              Or you get a reply.
              You don't miss a thing.

Speak to any supported of a Victorian based team.
Not many games are televised live here.
Only blockbusters are a general rule.
If you support a Victorian team in Melbourne and you want to see them play every week, you have to actually travel to the ground when they are playing in Melbourne, or you don't get to see it.

Forgive me for rolling my eyes every time a Sydneysider says that we are all spoilt down here.

Victorian based teams have it the way it should be down here.
You guys up there are the ones who are spoilt.
But it won't stay that way forever.
As the game develops in NSW, you'll find yourselves in the same position.
Either travel to the game, or don't see it.

for the record, I have never complained when a Swans game played in Melbourne wasn't televised.
              If I miss it, it's because I didn't go.
All I want it the interstate games televised.

We could be really pedantic and mention that when the AFL moved the Swans to Sydney, they said that every Sydney based game would be televised.
The main reason I supported the move.......

CtS, I'd imagine no Sydney based fan on this site gives a rats tossbag if Swans games in Sydney are televised live. We are ALL at the game.

The joy for us as supporters of the AFL, not just the Swans, is that we get to see the other games live.

Which is why just about everybody with Foxtel in Sydney is bemoaning the fact that we have lost White Line Fever. The 5-10 minute news bulletin at the start of the show was GOLD for us. Melbourne based fans would have already got the AFL news on the evening news and every radio bulletin during the day. It was probably old news to you guys, but as I said, GOLD for Sydneysiders who get no news or goss or tidbits at all.

To say we've been spoilt is truly a clueless statement.

I said that you are spoilt as fas as Sydney access goes

Like I said, I'd rather be starved of AFL in general and get to ass all the Swans games, than be starved of Swans games and spoilt with AFL.

I agree with BBB, most Sydney based people here go to every game and see it live.

I like to tape the SCG games that I'm at. By the time I get home, I hit the rewind button, then sit down and watch it again. We always get the away game live.

After that, I'll watch any other game they put on FTA - whatever time they want to put it on. I'm not fussy.

Tune into SEN radio on the Net. You get everything you want and more. This wall to wall footy radio station is the very best thing to happen to Melbourne media. Just this Sunday morning they are going through all the teams and how they will go. I never change the dial and if you want to ring up on a topic you always get on. Done it myself a few times and they have some really funny segments.

SEN is also broadcasting the footy this year. Yep we are spoiled down here with footy news and coverage but they are all on the NET also.

I listen to SEN on the net, it is on as I type now, but it is not ideal as I can't listen to the net at work, driving the car, out the back in the pool etc. etc.

The bottom line is, Sydney based people are looking for more exposure to general AFL, the Swans are well serviced. Melbourne based people are well served of AFL, but want more Swans.

An interesting breakdown of games per club, that was in yesterdasy paper.

At least we vics don't have to put up with Bruce, for a whole 12 months.

Pies get the best deal. No surprise ther as they have the biggest TV audience. Hawthorn fans got shafted. They get 1 less FTA game than Sydney.

As far as non Vic teams, Adelaide come out on top, but I suspect, that is because they have more late sunday games.

That is devastating for me, having just moved down here with the knowledge that before now all swans home games (that I now can't go to) were on tv down here anyway. (I thought that was a deal when they moved to Sydney??)
Now I see that I will get a look at only 3 games if they are not playing here. Before anyone says go to the pub, my swans addicted 3 yr-old doesn't really fit in too well, and his mother would not be impressed, now he will rarely see them play.
I hear not what you say, for the thunder of who you are.
