Now I see that I will get a look at only 3 games if they are not playing here. Before anyone says go to the pub, my swans addicted 3 yr-old doesn't really fit in too well, and his mother would not be impressed, now he will rarely see them play.

The biggest loss for us is the early Sunday games. They were always on TV. No all Sat Night games were, Esp. if two I/S* teams were playing, as opposed to at least one Vic team with a bigger audience.

      Yes it was.
That is part of the way the AFL sold the deal to the supporters.

Many will say that that was 20 years ago and is ancient history.
      I say a deal is a deal.

But then again, I still intermittently email Dee Snider to complain about his promise in 1987 that Twisted Sister would "definitely be back the following year" he went on to say "I know other bands say that, but when we say that we mean it"

So I am still waiting for the return concert.

He doesn't reply to my emails

I say get over it. The Swans moved when the VFL ran the game and matches were still being played at Windy Hill, Victoria Park and Western Oval. Roosy was running around for Fitzroy FFS!

It was logical that every Swans game could be telecast because they were the only non-Victorian team. There are now 5 other interstate clubs and at any given time each may present a more appealling game for Melbourne television audiences than the Swans.

Now not all changes to the game are for the better but generally professionalism, the national competition, increased exposure on television and therefore more money for the clubs far outweigh a few Swans games lost on Melbourne TV.

I think you should take Roosy's advice and start living in the 21st century.

          1. I was only thinking of the sunday games which have usually been the vast majority of our sydney games.

I say if you can't be constructive, don't keep baiting people but shut up.

I hope one day you have to live outside NSW then you will realise the disappointment that those of us living elsewhere are feeling at this deal.

Swans fans in SA and WA haven't had any real alternative for a long time.

I was pointing out that the world has moved on a lot since 1982.

I understand your disappointment but I can't understand why Melbourne fans expect to see as much Swans on free to air television as Collingwood.

Well according to the AFL's own fixture booklet which has a page on TV Ratings (Page 13, AFL - No 1 Television Sport) it ranks the Swans as the third most watched club in the AFL after Collingwood at number one and St Kilda at number two (these figure are for home and away matches only and don't take into account finals and Grand Final).

                        Collingwood - 953,000 (national averages)
                        St Kilda - 844,000
                        Sydney - 800,000

Now seeing as the Swans ratings in Sydney are @@@@ poor I don't see how keeping them off FTA television in Melbourne (the AFL's biggest TV market ratings wise) is going to give them the same exposure as past seasons and keep them in that same number three spot.

Therefore they won't be the same value for money for sponsors that they have been had we had more than just the 9 FTA games in Melbourne we have ended up with. But I'm guessing people think the 150,000 nationwide on Foxtel (best rating game on Fox Footy was Geelong vs Bulldogs last year with 166,000) and 100,000 odd in Sydney on 7 or 10 if they carry a Fox Sports game is better than the 800,000 (our national average) on FTA we got last year.
                        Once was, now elsewhere

So there is a positive to all of this!!!

As far as non Vic teams, Adelaide come out on top, but I suspect, that is because they have more late sunday games.
Having banked on the deal being the same as in the past, I know I was happy because of the amount of early Sunday games that we had. That has now bitten me on the bum (and probably in the hip pocket).

The good Mrs, not the ex. Unfortunately the ex has pay tv.
