One interesting fact that everyone has overlooked is that the AFL draw was done this time without the knowledge of which TV format would be covering each game (outside of C7 on Friday night), so in effect the AFL were blind when doing the draw.

I would bet my last dollar that next year you will see Sydney get more 3.00pm start games as per a request from C7, bringing the balance of Pay over FTA back towards equalibrum for us.

Of course and no doubt a few have looked past that point.

As for next year the worry about Channel 7 will be if they want us going up LIVE against Rugby League on Channel 9 on Friday's and Sunday's (hence the reason we don't play Friday Night matches and have 1pm starts on Sunday's). So any request we make for more FTA matches could go unanswered.

I would at the very least expect a cut in the amount of Sunday games to see how many games Channel 10 will pick up (they picked up 9 this year out of a possible 15), so an increase of Saturday Night matches could see us hit at least 11 LIVE FTA games (with the 2 games from Canberra replayed if they end up on Fox Sports as they will be this year).

Damn, you seriously cannot understand this?

OK, firstly, when the Swans moved to Sydney, the AFL said that all Swans games up there would be shown live into Melbourne to appease all the Swans supporters here.
There were many, and there still are many.
Now I know that was a long time ago, but I'll bring it up when it's convenient for me to do so.

Now, as to your comment about seeing as much free to air as Collingwood.

I will try and spell it out slowly.

Collingwood are a Melbourne based team.
Supporters of Collingwood can go and see all games played at the ground live, but they don't have to.

Even though the games are being played in Melbourne, they can sit and watch them on TV.

If a Swans game is played in Melbourne, I don't expect it to be shown on TV, in fact I think all games should not be shown on TV into the State in which they are played, that goes for Sydney games not being shown on TV when they are at the SCG.

So what we want, is access to Swans games which are not played in Melbourne.

I don't think that is asking too much.

Right now, the only ways to see those games is to pay the money to fly up to see them, or to pay the money for Foxtel.
Now considering that we have already paid for a Melbourne based membership, I think we are being asked to pay to much to see the games.

and I for one will not pay.
I won't pay to fly up for all the Sydney games.
I don't want to pay for Foxtel - I don't want Foxtel for many reasons, one being the restriction of TV that my kids watch.
I won't see the games, and my Swans supporters kids won't see the games.

Now I know you don't really care because they are the SYDNEY Swans and not based in Melbourne any more, but it's easy to sit and preach when you get to see every game one way or the other.

Now if you still don't understand this POV, then there is not much else I can say.

Just consider yourself lucky that you get access to your football team.

Foxtel has a very flexible parental lockout system. It's actually easier to keep your kids away from tv nasties with Foxtel than with FTA.

I feel for ya CTS - you guys HAVE been screwed.

Just think - if the Foxtel deal wasn't made you'd have all the games every week on FTA. Imagine that!!

I'd die if they took the "away" games off Sydney FTA. I go to the home games, so I just miss recording them to watch again when I got home.

Does that lockout system apply to whining and sooking?

                Foxtel has nasties?

                Maybe I should reconsider.....

                  Yep, and @@@@ happens.
                  Big deal.
Sort of sucks when people don't either understand or seem to care though.

What WOULD be great would be if they incorporated into the deal that FTA could televise the games 10 hours after they were played through the middle of the night, we could tape them and watch them in the morning.

But as Ned Kelly didn't say "such is life"
                  I'll look at the positives.
I've already informed my wife that she will be receiving lots more weekend sex

                    ROFLMAO!!

It does suck they didn't incorporate a clause saying that the "foxtel" games be broadcast back on FTA after the first "live" showing. Maybe you should write to Uncle Andrew and ask them to consider it in the next contract ... he did say that it's up for sale (and I'm pretty sure there are gunna be lots and lots of amendments).

QUESTION ... did foxtel run the games that were shown on FTA last year (after the fact) - or did they only run the games that they had rights to?

Yes, and all 8 games were replayed during the week.

So why can't FTA play the four games that foxtel broadcasts, say after midnight?

                              IT MAKES ZERO COMMERCIAL SENSE

THE AFL HAS TO FORCE THE COMMERCIAL NETWORKS TO TELEVISE AFL IN NON AFL MARKETS AS PART OF THE LICENCE DEAL.

                              DO YOU UNDERSTAND

                              I suspect not.
