Swan's player named in betting scandal!

    Swan's Player named!

Baron-Hay added: "Kieren has confirmed that in 2006 he placed two bets, totalling no more than $10."
What a naughty boy!! Can you believe it was only $10??!!??

Still, error in judgement none the less.

    Player is Keiren Jack!

A pretty stupid thing to do. Everyone knows you get your mother's family to put bets on for you.

Kieran Jack, bets totalling less than $10 facing a fine of up to $100k and a career ended before it began.

However for the three coke addicts, "she'll be right mate, you've still got two lives left."

      Absolute hypocrisy AFL.

FFS, surely KJ will just get a slap on the wrist. Placing $10 bets on a game without the Swans involved plus having never played a senior game of AFL is hardly earth-shattering!

          That's unfair, sort of.

Even though he hasn't played for the seniors yet, but c'mon! Little less than $10 and not on the Swans. He's only 19 yrs old, he can't pay up to $100k.

He did break the rules though. I just hope he gets a second chance.

The scary thing was, when i heard that 4 AFL players have been gambling, i immediatley thought 'None of the Swannies would do such a thing'...

Why is it!! Those players were tested out of season (the 8 weeks after the season ends) hence the 3 strike rule, because the AFLPA and the players themselves DIDN'T have to agree to out of season testing, WADA doesn't require it but the players agreed to it under those conditions anyway. If they got tested during the season and returned a positive test then they go before the tribunal and a penalty is given first strike or 245th strike.

As for the betting, sure what we have from the four players involved is minor stuff when you really think about it. But it's what it can lead into (and Daniel Ward is a prime example of what gambling can do, so how the hell is he betting on AFL matches just a matter of years after the Demons helped him out with a $50,000 dept owed to a bookie) that is why the AFL is taking such a stand on this issue.

I'm sure none of the players involved will miss any games and will get fined a small amount compared to what they could be fined under the rules, but rules are rules and these four players were stupid enough to place bets on AFL matches under their own name via TAB and/or Betfair accounts knowing full well the AFL have access to account details if they request it.

Plus for those who think this isn't a big deal, well I hope it isn't as well. But I want in 10 years time want to face the prospect of a Pete Rose like case (baseball's all time hits leader who bet on baseball, including his own team when manager and got a life ban and was excluded a sure fire entry into the Hall of Fame) where the AFL have to look at banning an all time great from the game for life because of betting of AFL.

It's a real problem, and the AFL is right to come down hard on it.

One of the players named today has been in trouble before. Because of his past record, he's likely to cop a harsher penalty than the others. It's fairly clear he has a problem, and there could quite likely be others in the AFL who have a gambling problem as well.

Why is it a problem? Player gets in over his head with a bookie. Bookie sends some sleazy underworld figures around to harrass him. That player is then a prime target for match-fixers.
Can't happen? It did in cricket not long ago.

Maybe he agreed to share his $20 worth of winnings with the Senior team if they dropped the game? lol

This is ridiculous, a 5 minute chat regarding the betting rules with Roos or Myles is all that is required here, it should have never been reported on.

Can someone tell me how they know KJ did this? I mean he walks into the local TAB, plonks down a tenner .. and god knows how long afterwards, the gestapo (the same idiots fiddling with the rules of the game) start sharpening the knives. WTF ... anybody??

Likely to have been done on account, either with Phone or Internet TAB, or with a registered bookie. Then the AFL at whatever point each year asks for a betting report on all players with such accounts and what they bet on.

LOL, that equates to around $1 per person. Seriously, you can find that on the floor!
