Originally posted by Roo I detect a bit of animosity towards the eagles from you to Annie. Are you still not over last seasons gf? It is 2007 and a new year.
Would this be such a discussed topic if it were another club involved?
At least the eagles managed to stay out of the betting scandal.
No club who have criminals playing for them should be above reproach. It's just that the budgies have a higher percentage of criminals in their team than in anyone else, therefore they get talked about more.
My personal rivalry and hate of the budgie criminals goes back a long, long, long, long time. The only time I like them is when I'm drinking for free at their GF breakfast ... they normally supply Houghtons - better than the Jacobs Creek that is dished up at our brekkies. The second I leave is the second I start hating them again. (I am a guest at their function, after all.) An old boss (and very close friend) is a higher level member of the budgies and has two GF tkts included in his membership. If the budgies aren't playing, he gives them to me. The rivalry goes back to when I was working for my mate.
It used to be a bit tongue in cheek, now they just bring the game into disrepute and I hate the way they get away with it time after time after time. It's not fair on the players who toe the line.
Betting scandal?? Biggus Dealus - Kieran Jack got off with a warning, the AFL didn't deem it that scandalous. (It was reported on Ch10 Sports Tonight).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
Well said Annie, if placing a $10 bet is on the same level as assault charges and being drunk & disorderly, then i'm a complete thug. I, like you, have never liked West Coast, and it goes all the way back to '95, so this isn't some GF grudge, afterall, the score is 1-1 in GF's. My problem is the message they're sending out, which in simple terms means the status or importance of a player to the club, determines how much leeway they're given, despite the seriousness of the crime. They're like the AFL mafia
