got to be HFF, he should settle into a role that allows freedom to run, with a defender that is responsible for following him.

Cause as a defensive presence he is a good bystander.....
    Staying ahead of the game...

"More time in the midfield" is the standard line clubs feed specialist HFFs & FPs to make them feel wanted - the Pies are going thru the same charade with Medhurst atm.

Generally, it doesn't work either coz the players aren't really suited to the midfield (they don't have the engine or nous) or they're too valuable doing what they do best.

I was impressed by Davis' work in the midfield vs the Pies but that was against some pretty ordinary competition - he looked a lot more lost on Saturday when the standard increased. I think he'll still spend some time in the midfield but IMHO he's greatest value to us is to become a really damaging goal-kicking HFF.

Early days...but I was disappointed with him on Saturday...looked overweight...didn't move well...think quick or kick "smart"...basically looked fairly disinterested.
Doesn't get a game unless he shapes up IMO.

More or less interested than Roos and the club generally?

                I'd dispute that.

I thought he had a fair crack and was pretty handy. He, like everyone else on the field, was hardly as sharp as you would expect him to be at round 15, but he was contributing.

Yes, he made a couple of silly errors (like when he tried to twirl out of two tackles on the edge of the square... what was he thinking??? ) but he was having a red hot go and taking them on.

And as has be mentioned previously, pretty hard for him to be too serious when clearly Roos and the club in general don't rate the NAB cup much more than a practice game at NSO...

Davis delegated his normal gameday role to Richards in order to try out Bolton's game. It was a great idea to get some perspective on the role of showpony.

                    I think Nick looks very fit at the moment, also apart from looking fit I've noticed in the NSO + NAB cup games he;
                    1. is moving around the ground pretty easily (particuarly considering how early in the year it is)- so his endurance is looking okay which is probably the normal concern with him
                    2. seemed to be able to speed up at will and get past folks when he wanted to
                    3. was usually well clear of his man when leading in the F50
                    4. wasn't getting pushed off balance around stoppages- this was a big thing I was looking for as when he lost the weight rapidly last year he didn't seem to be as strong at keeping his feet
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                      probably in the reserves.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

You are right ROK...apart from a few rookies...no one cares. Some might say "who cares", remember 2005 & 2006 (almost)....but I find it dispiriting & a turn off. Some of the other games were great. Did someone actually say Davis of the "pot belly" looked fit???

Yes, I did say he looked fit; I think he looks much fitter than normal for this early in the year.
Perhaps we are just both seeing what we want to see.

Or some of us are stirring the possum.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
