At most it's 3.5 hrs (sticking to the speed limit) if you take the freeways. If you take the highways, add extra time.

    Useless Trivia #8754

If you got on the M5 at Botany and travelled all the way to Canberra (staying on the freeway), the first set of traffic lights you will see are in Northbourne Avenue. How cool is that?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Knowing we're not in the NAB Cup to win it takes the emotion out of it. Which makes easier to watch individual players and analyse their game.

The cash-strapped clubs (for the main part) probably use the prize money as incentive, hence their more committed approach to pre-season games.

you have to remember that these are going to be the only hitouts those young players will get against quality senior players. our reserves play in the crappest league in the land and hardly ever get tested. some of our players possibly lost for the first time since junior football.

also, if we'd played a greater number of senior players last weekend, we'd have probably won and then we'd have to make a harder decision to drop seniors for the sake of juniors.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

If we won on the weekend we would have to play down in melbourne this week (I was originally told Cairns, but the Dogs have moved on to Melbs instead).
By losing we get to stay local, play off a larger bench which is a massive gain. The games would gradually get harder and tougher and make it harder to ease the likes of Everitt and O'Loughlin into the game.
We now have an 8 man bench (possibly 6 if im wrong), which means Spida can come on in small spurts, as he hasnt played a game since June. This could not happen in the NAB Cup. For the sake of getting players ready for round 1 its definitely much easier to do it in the Challenge Cup.

How the Heck can you call Newcastle a "substandard ground"??

The only problem with it is that it is a little on the small side. Having spoken to many of the players personally, they were more than impressed with the surface and quite enjoyed playing there.

Silly boy, Nat wanted to know how long it took from the CITY.

I'm in the centre of the universe (Strathfield), and the drive normally takes 2.5 - 3 hrs for me (depends on if I stop in Goulburn).

I didn't really expect it, but I'm forever hopeful.

Ch7 had a clip on Spida on Tuesday night. I almost fell off my chair! Tuesday?!?! In the lead up to a practice match?!?! I couldn't believe it!

Expect to see a lot more of AFL on TV from 7 than we got from 9.

7 doesn't have a vested interest in another football code so about the only footy they will have to promote is AFL..... Which suits me just fine...
