You didn't get as far as to comment on my 4th point.

Care to? Or do you also think the name is unreasonable and not indicative of where the Illegals are based?

South Melbourne is a suburb. North Melbourne is a suburb. West Coast isn't. It's a generic geographical location. Your 4th point? Well why don't we just call Sydney the East Coast? Or maybe Brisbane should have that title? And the Western Bulldogs represent the western suburbs of Melbourne, just like the West Tigers with the inner-west Sydney in the NRL.

        West Coast? I'm unconvinced.

Ah - that's why I said represented - not represents. Made sense at the time - not so much now - but it's hardly worth changing their name.

In Victoria the West Coast railway line goes to Warrnambool. In Canada Vancouver is on the West Coast....in fact I think we have had this discussion before.

It was reasonable at the time, a generic part of the country with its own team for 15 years or so.
However, most teams are named after a suburb, or city, WC are the exception.

So why not change it? The Kangaroos dropped North Melbourne from their name, and what would be the point of having South Melbourne based in Sydney? Change it up.
