Originally posted by eirinnWhether or not he deserves the sack for what happened is the crux of the issue, IMO. My personal view is that workers deserve some reciprocal loyalty after being employed in a place for a while and doing their job well, and support while they're going through something rather horrible should be readily available.
I understand entirely why others don't agree, but my own view is that he deserves more compassion than seems to be around at the moment. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Business is very cut throat unless you're in the big end of town and that's where Cousins is.
Other employers might get sacked for the same behaviour or lack there of but it shows that WC are standing behind their employee. Good on them. I'd like to see more of that for us plebs.
He should be sacked but how do you replace him?Comment

Which is not the same thing at all, and IMO is rubbishComment

I would love to know the few steps which take large tv revenue and sponsorships and the game and players being hugely popular.

I don't really subscribe to the view that footballers did not choose to become role models. Unfortunately it goes with the territory, and it's one of the key reasons why they get paid so much money.

Come on Bloods !
They know it is a high profile sport.
They like to get paid a lot and negotiate for bigger pay.
They know that their pay packets are inflated by TV deals and sponsorships.
The main reason these deals are so big is because the sport is so popular and they have such high profiles in public.
A big aspect of that high profile is popularity amongst younger people, and frequently younger people emulate their heroes, hence they de facto become role models.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The only part I erred on was the first sentence originally - "I don't really subscribe to the view that footballers did not choose to become role models." It should have been - "I don't really subscribe to the view that footballers are not aware that they will become role models." Of course they know they will and it's one of the responsibilities of the job that goes along with all the perqs.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
