        So, do we presume that the only path to "being" an umpire is via moving on up through the ranks over the years?

        What about ex-players? A ready-made resource. They'd have the fitness, would need minor training & know the rules as well as anyone, wouldn't they? Of course, they may need to be quarantined against officiating for their old club - but that could be managed.

        You may have a situation like Lions v Hawks being played to the constant sounds of booing if Buckley were bouncing the ball ..

        Or am I simply @@@@ing into the wind here?

          Whats the bet that with Goldy & Allen out, we get McLaren on Saturday night.
          I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
