When Seaby marked over Jolly and subsequently kicked a goal, it really bought home to me that Jolly is a total cardboard cutout. He just sort of limply raised his arms as if inviting someone, anyone, to take a ride over the top of him. probably having a mental conversation with his wife.

As for Spida, he was more like the daddy-long-legs sitting in the corner of my dunny than a huntsman in the corner of my shed. As someone else said, still a lot better than Jolly, if not an altogether impressive first hit out.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Nice attempt for Mark of the Year by Dr Jolly. Did he get any hands to it though?

Probably see his best football after about round 4 or 5 IMHO.
Don't forget he hasn't played a first grade match since having surgery on his ankle.

I agree with above. Other missing players last night were a greater worry.

Yes! In the end he dropped a chest mark.

Spida certainly looked good at the ruck contests but we missed him in general play. Not sure if that was just a one-off or Roos' gameplan but at Hawthorn he certainly played a far greater role as a link man through the midfield. With his (generally) good skills we should be using him more.

He was not quite up to speed last night but hopefully a few matches under his belt will have him right.

Having Spida in the team requires a change of mindset from our midfielders. Because we have never had a dominant tap ruckman in recent times, the tactics have essentially been defensive ? get numbers in there and neutralise the opposition rover when he sharks the tap. What needs to happen now Spida is on board is the exact opposite ? wherever possible those defensive players should drag their opponents away from the ruck contest so that Spida has some space to direct his taps to advantage. Won?t happen overnight.

will be much better in a couple of games time, certainly have a lot more confidence seeing him in the ruck for us than our other stocks. looked to me last night to be warming into it nicely and a good set of hands for marks up forward. We got too Hall concious last night
