I thought he got better as the game went on. Really seemed to lift in the last quarter. Most players can't read his taps, but that will come with time. Trouble is, there isn't anyone with electrifying pace who can take it from him and run. And, they just aren't used to being positive in a stoppage situation. Spida is a positive and creative ruckman. He needs some like players around him to blossom.
The hit-out stats I saw today suggested that both he & Jolly had 19 HOs to Seaby's 20 & that was surely Seaby's finest game. On that basis, they weren't that awful - yet it certainly didn't feel that way on the night.
I don't have any problems with Spidaman. He definitely improved with more game time, and he's going to be pretty damn crucial for us if we're to make a 3rd GF appearance in as many seasons, which i still firmly believe we can do.
Like any big man coming back from a long lay off you are not going to see the best of Spida until at least another month of game time.
Just needs to get the miles into his legs under game conditions.
What we saw on Saturday night was someone capable of getting his hand to the ball first and then being able to put it somewhere to advantage. Also saw depsite his goal kicking that he knows how to get the ball inside 50.

"Looking forward to a rebuilt, new, fast and exciting Swans model in 2010"
I will reserve judgement on Spida after a few more rounds. However the 50 he gave away was just plain dumb.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
One thing I really loved was when he won the Centre bounce and kicked it forward quickly. A high percentage play that will result in goals during the season.
It seems our game has been based on not winning ruck contests. Now we need to do what West Coast can do - expect the ball and have someone hitting it hard (and being protected) then getting into space and getting it forward. Think Kell, Stewie, Willo on occasions. Rather than win the rough and tumble (Kirk, Amon) - or the second or third bounce - get it cleanly. Who should be training for this? Nicky D wants a midfield role and would be good at bombing it forward to advantage.
Spida looks like he's trying. And he's talented. Give him (and our midfield) some time to settle in. But what's wrong with Jolly - he looks like he's just waiting for retirement to spend with the kid?

He has proven in the past he can read the ball tap well.

They were talking on MMM before the game that Spida is still the one of the best tap ruckmen in the game.
I think given a bit more time to settle into the team, we will see a vast improvement.
How many players slot straight into a team from day one?
It will also take the midfield a while to learn to read where he is likely to place the ball.
But you are right, we need that person to hit the ball hard and fast and bomb it into the F50.
I actually think Monty or even Fossie would be good as receivers in the middle and also around the field, as they both can accelerate and have good side steps with a decent kick to get it to the forwards.
Agree with everyone else Spida just needs more time to get some run into his legs and lungs.
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
We need
Love and peace
Interesting quote from Sheehan on OTC last night - to the effect of the Swans are managing Everitt so that he stars in September and not necessarily March. Fair enough, especially since he hasn't played much footy lately.
