We have perfectly good drug and alcohol counsellors over here, why send him to the US (other than to remove him from the bad influences around him).
Perhaps the AFL are providing funding to the extent they would have paid for the same treatment here and he/WCE are paying the difference.
I believe they (AFL) paid for Keiran Jack's counselling for gambling.Bring it on!Comment

Majority of large professional employers provide counselling to staff. Don't see that the AFL is any different.
I don't have a problem with either the AFL, AFLPA or any club providing financial assistance to getting an employee right. Whether it's a knee reco or a lobotomy.
Who do you think does pay for all the surgeries? I'd speculate it's NOT the players funding the medicare gap.
i would imagine the insurance companies pay for player surgeries, etc. i had to take out a policy when i played touch years ago.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Even if its 50/50 between West Coast & the AFL, those costs will eventually go back to the members of WC & the AFL. So whilst I am glad that he is seeking councelling, albeit in the most extravagent way, I feel that as he earns well over $500,000 per year that he should pay for it himself. Are the AFL & WC admitting liability?, that they were the cause of Cousins problems, coz that is what is looks like.
Sure as eggs if it was junior player with the club they wouldn't get the same treatmeant. They would get a pamphlet of rehab providers in the local area and probably would be sacked by the club.
Keiran Jack probably got the 2 hour lecture on gambling - which would have cost about $300 so his rehab was cheap as chips. The Cousins scenario has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Whilst in the beginning I was sympathetic to Cousins cause and you dont wish drug abuse on anyone and we all make mistakes, that sympathy is starting to diminish.
West Coast have alot to answer for, they chose to hide or ignore the problem for a long time and as we all know Cousins isnt the only one involved now.Last edited by Wardy; 5 April 2007, 08:13 AM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................
