I am not saying that Matthews is the difference, but clearly the team is not functioning in fifth gear at present so it's all hands on deck with the senior players until we are up and running and can afford to carry a younger player who may not be up to standard at present.

If you play youngsters for the sake of palying youngsters you end up like Hawthorn & Carlton, in the wilderness for years pinning your hope on young talent.

I for one AM prepared to see a loss or two if it means the overall forward momentum of the club in the long run. Mathews is not the forward momentum, on so many levels! And I doubt one single player would be the sole reason behind a loss were one to occur - it's like people blaming Darren Jolly solely for the GF loss last year - sure, he may have contributed but it wasn't entirely his fault - there were 21 other players involved too.

I'm just still not convinced that there isn't a better option than Mathews floating around our list just itching for a chance that may never come simply because Mathews is in the team.
