It probably says more about our defensive midfield than it does about our backup ruckmen of 2006, but how rubbish our backup ruckmen were yet we still managed to finish top 4 and make a GF speaks volumes for Darren's effort. Whether we had a ludicrous number of stoppages to put him in the position to do it or not, his 2006 season was a massive effort (finished poorly obviously)- he finished up with 605 HOs from 25 games.

Possibly...but even taking into account our defensive midfield causing a lot of stoppages, Chambers actually did alright in the hit-outs - IIRC he was well inside the top 50 in the comp before he was dropped, which is about what you'd expect for a #2 ruckman. So it was still a pretty good effort.

Argh, you've got me again.
I can't even remember what the stats were, all I remember was noticing that Chambers was ranked surprisingly highly for a no.2 ruckman mid-season. He may have been as high as #20 or so, I'm not sure. It won't show up in the end-of-year stats coz he got dropped. But now this is going off-topic. My point was Jolly had a pretty good year in 2006 independent of our #2 ruckman.

Your memory serves you well Xie Shan. Paul Chambers was around the #20 mark about 10 or so rounds in. He finished off the season 28th overall for total HOs (122 HOs and 33 disposals from 12 games ). His average was 10.2 HOs per game, which isn't overly awful considering I don't recall him getting a great amount of time on the ground in those games. Doyle's average was 11.6 (36th overall with 81 from 7 games).

Darren also had 4 of the top 10 highest individual HO totals for the year with the top 3 at 49, 44 and 41; Street/Sandilands/Cox tie with 39 for the next and then Darren again with a 37 HO game.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Congratulations Darren. You may not be flavour of the month on RWO at the moment, but many of us remember the enormous contribution you have put in since joining the swans.
Remember he was our only ruckman for most of 2006. I think the workload took its toll by the end.
He'll be back to form soon enough.Comment
