What's everyone's opinion on MOL swearing during the game and calling the umpire a F#ckhead? Sure, it's not an acceptance speech like Brauny's was, but it was just as clear to anyone watching the game and was worse in my opinion, because it was directed at someone, not just in general talk as a adjective.

What's the bet this gets swept under the rug like the million other times footy players swear during a game, with all the excuses that it's in game, so it's excusable.

I'd have preferred it if he had have called the umpire's daughter a slut and told him that he slept with her - especially if she was underage.

Why don't you get your club to report it to the AFL. Would make a nice change. You are obviously immensly hurt by MOL mouthing it to the extend you need to air it on these boards.

A letter to the chairman of your club, a subsequent letter from him to the AFL and it will all be out in the open. Then we can discuss it. Wait, maybe the umpire will report him ... maybe not.

Trying to deflect attention away from your club's misdemeanours isn't going to score you Brownie points. If I were you, with the horrifying mouthing of a swear word by one of ours, I'd stop supporting the E-girls if I were you. You must have had an overload, I'm afraid you are not going to be able to take much more.

Now, stop supporting the e-girls, stop listening to anything that comes from them and you won't be offended. Obviously the Sydney Swans are also not the club for you - they are offending you even though you couldn't care less if they didn't exist.

The difference between MOL's outburst and Braun's IMO is the context in which the words were used. Quite simply, it is considered by society, rightly or wrongly, that it is not appropriate to swear when making a public address. Generally however, society is accepting of swearing in other circumstances, such as playing a game of sport. MOL's words may have been broadcast, but he was not speaking to the public when they were uttered. Generally, it is the context that determines the appropriatness of the utterance, not the words themselves.

As an aside, because you may go here next, if abusing an umpire is an AFL offence, then it is up to the umpire to decide whether or not to enforce the penalty for that offence (either a free kick or report) but that is not the point here.

This board has a thread about Brauny's swearing on it. Can't see why it can't have one their about MOL swearing as well.

Not hurt at all about MOL swearing and never mentioned it offended me. It would be nice to see some consistency from the AFL on these matters tho. An Eagle player swears, and it's the worse thing to happen, articles are written instantly about it. A Swan player calls an umpire a Mod edit : Don't attempt to avoid the swear filter, and you don't hear a peep.

I'm not trying to deflect any attention from the Eagles (that's impossible at the moment). We all know Selwoods sledging was poor taste and Brauny's F-Bomb wasn't the best word he could have used. This thread is about MOL swearing, so why can't it stay at that? Haven't had one comment yet about it, just digs at the E-girls (hahahaha )

I've written to the AFL asking for a $3,300 (incl GST) salary cap exemption so that MOL may have counselling and rehabilitation on the issue. He will sit down with the umpire, who will explain how hurtful the comments were and the damage that it has done to his self esteem. MOL will be made spend 3 hours in the Pitt St Mall wearing a "I swore at an umpire" T-shirt and be made do 5 primary school visits to explain to the children why it is bad to swear at umpires.

Not trolling, just wanting Swan supporters view on it. A troll would have went, "ZOMG, MOL WAS TEH SWEARING AND IS A KNOB AND SHOULD BE SACKED, STUPID AFL!!!!!!1!!!1111!!"

Neither can I, so that means that in its context it is no big deal. If he pushed an umpire he would be reported, but pushing a player is fine. See, again it depends on context.

Well maybe, but you seem to have agreed with me pretty quickly which suggests that you have not thought the issue through particularly well and jumped on RWO looking for a reaction.

I've seen tons of players swear on TV, not necessarily heard on TV but you can see them mouth it, and yet there isn't a thread on each of them. Almost every player from every club (including West Coast and Sydney) can be seen at least once venting their frustration with swearing and it happens so many times that it is pointless to hand out fines everytime it is said. Yet you seem to single out MOL. I wonder why is that?

Where on "Eagles Flying High" did a RWO member start a swearing thread on Braun? Stuffed if I can find it. We have one here, I'm sure there is one on EFH, Saintsational, Bulldogs Barking etc etc. What makes you think that every thread that is about an e-girl (on RWO) should be equally offset by a thread along the same lines about a Swan? Why don't you start a thread about MOL's cursing on "Eagles Flying High" - that way you and your mates can lament in harmony how it is hurting the game of AFL more than what your perfect players do week in week out.

I must read up on court proceedings in WA soon. For the record, if there are any coming up in NSW soon, let me know so we can have balanced threads on our boards

I'm not a big fan of swearing but accept that it is part of the sporting arena. As has been said MOL was punished with the 50m penalty. It was a dumb thing to do. I didn't hear it as I had the TV commentary turned down and was listening to the radio. MOL isn't alone in using the "F" word when missing a shot on goal. There was a bladder article a while ago about the AFL fining a player for failing to use it when missing a shot on goal (very funny).
As ROKL has said it is horses for courses, pretty much a non-issue. Why would the AFL do anything about swearing when they don't have the spine to deal with more serious issues properly, such as drug use?

I don't see the issue. MOL was right, they all are.

I thought we were hard done by a few times, but the mark by Knights(?) when crouch spoiled and we eventually goalled was appalling.

If you're really serious about this complaint (and not just trolling) it should be addressed to channel 10, it is their sound guru's who stuffed it up, that's why "live" broadcasts of any sort are supposed to be on 7 second delay.

BTW was this one of the trolls from "Eagles always high" that was banned either last year or the year before in GF week?
