Round 5 was the start of our good form in 2006.

We didn't really get going until much later in 2005.

2005 - 10th 2 Wins 3 Losses - 93.29% - 1 Game and & from both the Top 4 and the Top 6. In 2005 we lost our Round 6 game to West Coast at Subi by a lot to slip even futher behind (and lead to the comments by Demetriou about our gameplan in lead up to the Roudn 7 win against Essendon that was the start of the turn-around)

2006 - 9th 2 Wins 3 Losses - 93.83% - 2 Games and % from the Top 4 and 1 Game plus % from the Top 6. In 2006 we won Round 6 against Brisbane which was the first of 5 wins in a row.

2007 - 3rd 3 Wins 2 Losses - 122.02% - In the Top 4, and with some very winnable games coming up, we should not only make our spot in the Top 4 safer, we "should" position ourselves for a run at a Top 2 spot come Round 22.

Yes we aren't playing great football ATM, but we are in a better position than at ANY stage where we have been in the past two years where we have made the Grand Final both years and history shows we get better as the year progresses. So while we "could" be 5-0 or 4-1 we are 3-2 and in a better position than we have found ourselves in for a long time.

I think its obvious we were a bit more prepared for the early round this season, and I think the reason was probably motivated by off-field influences looking at a big first up game in the GF rematch.

Be interesting to see how it effects the rest of our season.

We'd already won rd 5, which was the first of six in a row!

Next four games are all emminently winnable and emminently loseable. Win three out of them and we should be happy, especially if we have to do it without Tiger and maybe Ablett. (Remember how flat the team looked last year early on while Kennelly was out - though emergence of Malceski should somewhat mitigate that, hopefully).

Roos looked very good in beating Geelong down on their dungheap today, Saints are very hot and cold but their tall forward line has the potential to cause us problems, plus Lyon has lots of inside information. Port are in great form at the moment and they've caused us problems at the SCG in the past. And they and the Dogs - the following week - are probably the two quickest sides going around so have the weapons to expose the Swans.

Need to wait til the end of May to find out how we're really going.

Wonder if his inside information will help the Saints as much as Willo's did last night.

Nothing would have helped the Demons last night. They weren't beaten with tactics but with personnel.

The Saints have a few injury issues too - when don't they - but nothing like those Melbourne is having to cope with at the moment.

DST mentioned line breakers. Last night both Moore and Schmidt showed they can roost the footy a long way, so can add that extra dimension to our game by kicking it long from the back of the square.

Lets face it Mathews, J Bolton, Crouch and Kirk are not the greatest kicks under the sun and Leo, Mal and C Bolton are normally coming off the last line.

If they would only spot up Nick Davis a bit more and not be Hall obsessed.

Are you incapable of discussion without insults?

A 1 point loss to the premier who was missing about 6 of their premiership team, and who had a very disjointed preparation, and we were at home.

A 14 point loss to a team missing more than half a dozen of their regulars.

And a scratchy win against a team without a win, and a win against another team without a win.

Which part is the 'hard marker' - that we have the best percentage that we've had under Roos? That's not so harsh. That we're better placed than 2005? That's not so harsh. That I'm not sure about 2006? Not too different to what some other people have said, yet you make those comments on my post.

Sorry, but some of us, whilst enjoying the great start by the team this year, may prefer to be more reallistic. Rose coloured glasses are fine, but a team missing their stars still beating us does not give good grounding for optimism should we meet them again at full strength.

The latter three teams, two were missing their entire ruck divisions and had to make do with inadequate replacements, the third was missing most of its forward power. I know we are sitting third, and I am always the optimist, but reality says we have not beaten a full strength team this year and have been beaten by teams expected to play finals with up to half their team replaced by second stringers.

That's footy. There's always an excuse when you lose, and there's always a reason why you win.
