The thing about both Malceski and Kennelly, is that neither of them are particularly good defenders IMO. Not unusual though - often a trend for a couple of backmen to be there for rebound rather than defence (eg: Gilbee with the 'Dogs).

I think it is the 4th in tackles that creams off those stats. Playing where he does, it isn't great shakes that he's high in kicks and marks. A lot of those marks are uncontested ones across half back.
But the fact that he is figuring highly in tackles is a very encouraging sign as it shows he's getting in there to do the dirty work too, when it's his turn.
And I suspect Swantastic will tell us that he's miles ahead of any other Swan for effective disposals.Comment
