Good news on LRT too. It will free Ted Richards up to be more of a utility.

If LRT is ready by round 9. A few games in the 2's to get him match fit, should see him back in the seniors after the mid-season break.

If bucky comes in and Ablett stays, who will we drop? Both Moore and Schmidt did enough to stay another week.

Or perhaps Bucky will come in for Tadhg.

I think Moore or Schmidt will be better value than Ablett within a short period of time.

I agree, Moore reads the play really well and his disposal is good. Plus I havent seen him get pinged for HTB once, compared to Ablett who constantly gets pinged.

            I don't think they'll risk Ablett.

I'm baffled by the view of many on this forum re Ablett - I think he's a good contributor each week and is very consistent. He'd be one of the hardest runners in the team along with ROK. Ablett rarely gets a HTB in our D50 so if he's first to the ball and locking it up to force a ball up and stop an attack through the mid - that's a good job. He'll be missed.

I expect either Schmidt or Moore or both be capable of getting 15 possessions in a game before too long, and actually feed the ball out of packs to players in good positions, rather than constantly lock the ball up.

NOG is, I think, the least likely of the current automatic first-22 selections to make it to 150 games. He does what he does well (enough) within Roos' coaching plans, but I doubt whether he has the necessary versatility and scope for improvement, that are required in this caper. Moore, to choose a roughly equivalent barrel-chested midfielder, appears to have more of both. Beautiful long kick (if only he had the self-confidence/license to unleash it more), though; hope he proves me wrong.

That's all a different issue to whether he plays this week, though. I don't think we should be risking someone who sustained such a nasty jar, when we have the cattle to cover him-- and some of them, e.g. Moore, need and deserve a(nother) run in the seniors. Plus London to a brick that if he does play, Harvey/Archer/someone will deliberately target his knee.

Sydney, even after last weekend, do not have a bad injury list. Look at Adelaide and St Kilda; now that's a bad injury list. Loads of names, and a fair smattering of '2008' or 'indefinite' for expected return dates. Lets hope we don't ever go there.

As long as Roos is coach Ablett will get a game. He has a game plan and Ablett fits neatly into that game plan. He uses him as a stopper and run with player and he remarkably gets a bit of loose ball. His stamina is unquestioned and he is as hard as they come. The lower ranked clubs would take Ablett at a pinch because he is hard, and that is what a lot of them lack.

My reading of Ablett is that he is just very coachable in the sense that he follows his instructions to the best of his abilities. I reckon he has more tricks up his sleeve than he regularly shows - in particularly, he doesn't play quick but I reckon he's actually got a bit of pace.

And while his foot missiles sometimes go astray, only Dempster could challenge him for length of kick. I am pretty sure he'd have Moore covered in that department.

The main deficiency of Ablett in the role he plays (and that goes for Bolton, Crouch, Mathews and to some extent for Kirk) is lack of quick, clever hands. That is where (hopefully) one or more of Moore, Schmidt or maybe even Bird will add something to the clearance work in the future.

Threads about Defence inevitably lead to our midfield. Elsewhere we are talking about Davis in the backline. It is arse about football we play I swear.
