Split the difference and play him in the centre...

    But seriously, no way.

He's an attacking player and won't make a good defender as he won't be accountable for his opponent. It's not in his nature or style of play to be a defender or a negater. He attacks and wants to score.

Personally, I reckon his foot speed doubles when he's within kicking distance to the goal... The man loves to kick a goal. Let's not take that natural instinct away from him..

There is a lot of perception that Davis would not be accountable at half back and I'm not sure if it is really justified. I don't believe he would be any less accountable than Kennelly for example.

Very true, and if we are clever with how we use him across half forward I am sure he can drop back enough times to be a inside 50 target a few times a game. The thing I love about Davis getting inside 50s is that they are usually deep to the goal square and he usually doesn't mind kicking it to people other than Mr Hall or Mr O'Loughlin.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
