Didn't we have the oppurtunity to pick up a guy from the Tiwi islands in the PSD last year??? Anyone remember his name?? Think he went to Essendon??? I also recall recall someone mentioning he was on the verge of selection as well..... Hmmm... Again, 20/20 hindsight.
We desperately need a crumbing forward!

B) If we we're going to take him (Whoever he is) in the PSD we would have had difficulty fitting him on the list.
If they'd just play Schneider in the pocket the problem might be solved. Or actually give Philips a go (What more can he possibly do to get selected??) as a pocket instead of running around the outside of packs which is what he seems instructed to do when he does get a game.Comment

Over here in WA:
I think maybe Sampi & Farmer might be up for trade both teams seem to be fed up with them also acouple of smokies that are uncontracted though very exiting youngsters Raphael Stack Subiaco will Play AFL definately he's only 20 and maybe Keith Pickett 20 also South Fremantle if you're willing to take a gamble ShaneTipuamantamerri would of been picked up at the end 2005 draft though he was out injured for all 2006 though is back now he is really exciting player problem he is 26 but kicks freakish goalsLast edited by sWAns63; 14 May 2007, 04:05 PM.Comment

We dont need a crumbing forward. Why would we need one of those ?
A crumbing forward is only neccessary for those old fashioned teams who kick to a contest at the top of the goal square. The swans never kick to a contest. They would rather pass it around outside 50 ten times (or until they make a mistake). The only time they will pass into the 50 is when a lead is on. Crumbing forwards are of limited value in that scenario as the lead can be anywhere inside the forward 50.
I'm all for a game plan that requires a crumbing forward positioned front and square from a goal-square bound Donk or Everitt.
Lets by-pass Barry Hall.Comment

People need to bear in mind that Alwyn Davey turns 23 in 10 days time and has a decent amount of experience in the SANFL. So while Essendon would be delighted with what he has brought to their team and how quickly he is making an impact, you can't really compare him with an 18 yo draftee, or even with a 20yo and skinny Phillips. His scope for signficant further improvement may be limited.
The one I can't believe got missed was Pearce, especially after people were shaking their heads wondering how Aaron Davey got through to the rookie list.
Watching Aaron Davey this weekend, it seems impossible to imagine that he was passed up in main draft. If he had endurance, he'd be better than Judd. Speed, kicking, vision, tacking and just about every other skill is just awesome.
I though I read somewhere that O'Dwyer was indigenous.
There's obviously some really good talent around that gets unnoticed. I think the Swans are well behind in this area of recruiting.
Kevin Sheedy missed on Davey brother, but wasn't letting a second get by.Comment

In the past, I think there was a suspicion that some of these types of players were one-trick ponies who relied exclusively on speed and flair and that this style might not translate well to the AFL where the pressure and pace of game are so much higher. Aaron Davey put pay to a lot of that when he showed how important he can be defensively too, with his willingness to chase down opponents and tackle hard despite a relatively slight frame. Alwyn is carrying on the tradition this season too.
Size is another factor, with a question mark over very short and skinny teenagers on whether they can put on sufficient bulk to be effective at senior level and to remain uninjured. You can see the effect of size on someone like Phillips. On pure skill alone, he'd probably be the first choice to come up to the senior team from our current reserves crop. But the fact that most of his attempts to tackle are ineffective is a bit of an issue at the moment. On the other hand, Danyle Pearce is still pretty skinny but he seems to be able to cope a little better, though he is a couple of inches taller than Phillips.
In the case of Aaron Davey, he reportedly turned up to state screening in pretty poor physical state and didn't produce results that backed up the football he'd been playing that year in the VFL. This seemed to raise some questions on his attitude, which may have affected some clubs' decision not to draft him.Comment

The amount of inside 50s we generate we are definitely not getting enough reward as opposition teams are getting it out of the danger zone so easily.
One thing i notice is that we don't have anyone crumbing our packs which is no doubt frustrating.
An Alwyn Davey who has whippet pace, great goal sense and defensive pressure would be awesome to have and the icing on the cake for our forward line (not to mention a crowd pleaser.)
If we had Campbell or Alwyn Davey playing for us i could assure you we would be getting alot more shots at goal.
What does everyone reckon?
My tip is that when this game plan is not working, simply go back to a man on man style of game. When the ball is coming into the forward 50 there simply is no way any sort of forward can make much use of the pill. If we get it in more quickly & look for a longer option (ie Hall Okeefe or Davis) we will have more predictability. On Saturday we were completely one-dimensional, against a coach and team clued up on how we play & what they had to do to beat us.

The hole left in our defence with Tagdh Keneally means we have to use Schneider as a band-aid solution in providing quick disposal out of the FB line. He talents as a goalsneak are therefore missed.
The sooner Tiger comes back, the better it will be for not only the defence but the HF/FF line as well.

Schneider is our man on the ground up fwd with Philips as a handy off sider.
Both are quick and know where the sticks are. Using Schneider on the ball is a waste of his natural ability. i.e. Goals!
Davis need to go to centre. He can have more of an impact there. His beautiful kick will also ease the pressure on Hall, MOL. ROK and Everitt to take a spekky everytime the ball comes in. Being a fwd, his delivery into the fwd line is exceptionally good. Nearly everytime he kicks it in to Hall and co, they've got a chance. Unlike when some of our less reliable midfielders deliver it in there.Comment
