Whats with all this chipping around once inside 50. One time we marked inside 50, passed off to another mark inside 50, then passed off to McVeigh inside 50. 3 wasted "risky" possessions to finish with the ball in the hands of one of our most unreliable kicks. Luckily McVeigh wobbled it through.

On a 2nd occation, Everitt marks 30m out on a 45 degree angle. Very gettable shot. He passes backward to C.Bolton at 45m on a 30 degree angle. Why would you pass to a backman further out? Bolton missed.

Another time, Jude has a set shot from 45m. It falls short.

I dont like any of it. The only part I liked of todays game was that the midfield werent so Hall concious. Improved us, no end.

If Mcveigh gets a game next week, then I just dont get is role in the team.

Well I only saw the last 70% of the game myself thanks to Seven, but I thought Pearce was quite good in Port's late revival at the start of the last quarter.

Since the coverage only kicked in mid way through the 2nd quarter I was looking at it trying to work out who was dropped for Kennelly and Dempster. I honestly thought McVeigh must be missing until he bobed up for his usual clanger. A total of 9 possessions for the game does not a midfielder make.

Kirk was well beaten too.

McVeigh only lost control of Pearce at the end. Pearce had 11 touches for the day and kicked one goal to McVeigh's 2.

I purposely took note of poor disposal skills when not under pressure. This included set shots at goal and missing on the run.

We had 37 and of those 7 were missed set shots and 4 running into open goals. That leaves 26 which must be way down on previous weeks.

Buchanan accounted for 5, Bevan 2, J Bolton 2, Spida 2 (including Barry call above)Hall 2 (including a hands in the back from a great kick by Davis)

4 stood out for me:
C Bolton in the last Q made a great run to the HFF flank, took the ball on the run and was a couple of metres clear and for whatever reason tried to back track to McVeigh who was marked - holding the ball. This was against how we played all day and seemed to stop our momentum resulting 3 goals in 5 minutes to cut our lead to 20 points.

Schneider's brain fade when caught HTB after 2 bounces.

Spida in the Last Q at a centre bounce chose to handpass instead of kick when he had a clear chance to do so. The handpass went to a Port player who cleared the centre easily for a resultant goal.

One I would reckon few would have seen by Bevan. Now before people jump on me this has nothing to do with my desire to have him out of the team.
Salopek kicked a goal off one step to bring the margin back to 20 points and on the replay I saw Bevo pull his head back instead of putting his body forward to smother the kick. He was in the perfect spot to smother the ball. Not saying he shirked it because that is not his style, but those smothers are things that win games.

So overall our non pressure error rate was more than acceptable for the majority of the team. I suspect Buchanan will always make those mistakes.

What we need to do is convert easy shots at goal.

I agree. It's been a long time since I've come here for accurate observations on the club. Most of the time, I wander in here and find threads detailing why certain players should be dropped, why Roos is a dud and why the Swans are doomed to fail. None of it is ever accurate.

88% of the time these opinions are way off the mark. The Swannies played great today, and the players who have copped it on here lately really stood up.

The cynicism around here is almost chronic.

McVeigh beat a player who's not up to it. He got one nice goal, and one very lucky wobbler. He had a total of 9 possessions, none of them hard. His unfit man got more possessions.
If anyone thinks that wipes away 1/3 of a year of ineptitude then they are kidding themselves.

I'm surprised he only had 9 possessions. I thought his game was a lot better than recent weeks. He'll be persisted with because a) there's a lot riding on his development and b) we need his pace. Last year McVeigh showed he was developing into a quality player so hopefully with some regained confidence he'll return to that level.

There is no doubt he's down on confidence. That was shown when he slotted his wobbler. The whole forward line went up to him to "congratulate" him.

Unless the dogs are planning on playing an unfit running style player, I think he will get slaughtered next week on the wide expanses of Manuka.

An average player who is down on confidence shouldnt be getting a game with a side trying to win a flag. Send him to the 2nds for a few weeks.

I thought he had a decent game, but 'one swallow does not a summer make'! It's hard to see who he will match up on against the 'Dogs. Will be a very good test for him because he will undoubtedly play.
