Mc Veigh versus Scott Russell

If a pre-requisite of being a member of the Sydney Swan's midfield was that you had to be a 'top line player' then I would think we'd be fielding a side each week with a huge numerical disadvantage. We'd be playing each week with only 16 blokes including the bench.
Of the 8-10 midfielder's in our best 22 I would say that 2 of them at most would be of the 'top line' variety (Goodes and Kirk).
As for your argument that he was a wasted draft pick at number 5 - it's not his or the club's fault that he came through in a year that was particularly light on for talent. Would you say that the Bulldogs made a better choice with their pick at number 4 in Tim Walsh? I think not.
History is littered with examples of players that were taken in the top 5 draft picks but didn't live up to the hype or expectations of some 'supporters'. The Jarrad McVeigh example is far from being one of the worst.
Add to that he is a local boy. How dare the club show some faith in a player from the Rams. He is no Chris Judd, but then again neither is Luke Hodge.
Not many blokes are.And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .Comment

So we agree...he is a wasted No.5 draft pick ??

I think we agree that he may not have been the best - but the pick was certainly not wasted ...The Jarrad McVeigh example is far from being one of the worst.
Who is he? Do we now have to agree he was a greater wasted pick at 4?Would you say that the Bulldogs made a better choice with their pick at number 4 in Tim WalshComment

To compare him with the worst of the worst, is hardly a ringing endorsmentYou are only reading what you want to read - Let me try and point out what you missed ...

2 wrongs don't make a right Mr Frog !!
The crux of the matter is... he is a dud.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

I initially thought that this thread was comparing McVeigh to one of the Beaconsfield miners.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
