I did feel for Lade though. He was up against two ruckmen in form and he had absolutely no support whatsoever. Brogan was crap and Tredrea was bad enough to get dragged at one stage. By game's end, he was exhausted.
It was definitely the best game from the Jolly-Spida combo so far... may that type of performance continue.

Spida was excellent yesterday but I was equally pleased with Jolly. If he starts consistently taking those marks in defence and attack he will become an elite AFL ruckman.

Was that the first time that Jolly has been used in our backline? It was a smart move by Roos as Jolly gave us some badly needed height back there. And when we were attacking as much as we were, it was also a smart place to 'rest' him.

Apologies - I missed your post.

It was a good move. Lade often kills us because he's too big for our backmen.

Certainly for the 1st qr at least Jolly & Spida seemed to change in the ruck every goal - clearly a deliberate ploy.

I thought the contest with Lade was closer than people are suggesting & Lade particularly had an impact when they came back at us in Q4. But Spida was especially important in making a statement in the first half & great to see Jolly doing more work around the ground.

Agree that it wasn't one sided and Port definitely got on top of the centre clearances as the game progressed. But Lade is one of the two best rucks going around, so just to break even with him is impressive.

I thought it was Lade's lack of impact around the ground that was most important. He has killed us in the past with his goal kicking and given that none of the rest of the Port tall forwards were looking like doing anything, he could well have been one who stepped up and became a danger.

Great combo job by Jolly and Spida.

Just how bad was Tredrea yesterday? A shadow of a shadow of his former self.

I wonder if his (multiple?) knee injuries have slowed him down a great deal. One of his great abilities was speed and turning - he was one of the best big men at crumbing. He seems to have lost that now. His marking was always good, but he has no spring now. His kicking was always a bit mixed. At 28 you have to wonder whether he'll be a dominant force again.

The intersting thing with this weeks stats, only one player had an Eff disp stat below 70%. Jolly, whose Eff recently has been quite high.

Was this a result of better form/skill, or less pressure from Port?
