SYDNEY coach Paul Roos last night denied accusations by Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade that the Swans launched a dirty tricks campaign against his club
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...
the problem with rocket is that sydney players lost respect for him, closely followed by the fans. you can't respect someone who doesn't respect you.
he just can't get over that.
big fat crybaby sourpuss.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
Coach Eade...deary, deary me
He was delivered a swans team in 96, full of potential stars, plus at least 3 or 4 proven champions. They had been hardened up and shown the worth of passion for the club, by Barassi........First year , fantastic, then Eades influence start taking effect, it's a downhill slide from there...nearly destroying the careers of players like Goodesy along the way. All the way down to the confused, dispassionate rabble he left in '02.
He may understand gameday tactics, but thats about it, he has no human skills.
Just like he did at the Swans, I expect him to slowly undermine the promising doggies over the coming seasons.

Rocket may have had his faults but he was a pretty good coach for us. It's disappointing to see this sort of animosity between a club and an ex coach but then again, things rarely end well. They only ever end badly. If it wasn't bad, it wouldn't have ended in the first place!
Rocket took us to the finals almost every year he coached. No doubt he would of been under EXTREME pressure to make the finals each and every year. This will have an adverse effect on managing your playing list. i.e. You end up taking high price perfomance proven veterans with only 2 years in the draft instead of taking 4 untried young guns with 10yrs ahead of them. I don't blame Rocket for any of our shortfalls in his period of coaching. He was and still is an effective coach. I'd take him back of Dean Wallace, Pagan, Williams, Daniher or Thompson.

Here, here.

i'm not saying that he wasn't a good coach for us ... at the time.
sorry, but i won't have rocket back.
he's got no respect for the players or the fans.
that's why he was shafted in the first place.

But I think that it's fairly obvious that there were a lot of internal machinations going on between coach, players and board that we wouldn't be aware of. Items like the board discussing the position with Wallace before Eade has left or told about his future would be one item that I'm sure caused plenty of angst.
No we wouldn't go back to him but I am glad we had him. There's a lot worse coaches out there than him today.
I didn't mind Rocket when he was coach and let's face it he delivered sustained success at teh club for the first time in decades.
I don't think the current Chairman is a patron saint in all this either by the way.

I'm not particularly anti-Eade. Nor do I think the club handled the whole 2002 coaching situation in a particularly great way. But is there any evidence (or even reports) that Wallace was spoken to before Eade quit? All I have read about is that the club possibly sounded out Wallace towards the end of the season, once Roos had taken over the reins on a caretaker basis.

Dean Wallace ???what's he got to do with anything? I assume you mean the Wallace answering to the name 'Terry' ?
When Eade left, our team was in disaray, playing tentative ,confused footy, they certainly weren't playing for eachother...enter Roosy, and things pick up immediately, with the same list, and continue to go well to this day. He is also under the same pressure to perform.
Of Course Eade is to blame, who else? I don't hear too many swans players, past or present, giving Eade wraps....Even 'Cornflakes' Thomas got wraps from his team when he left the Saints.

roosey instilled passion.
rocked was dispassionate.
that's the difference between the two.

You are correct. Terry. That's how much regard I have for him. I can't even remember his name.
Fortunately, that's where your correct assumptions end.
The club was in total disarray both on and off the field when Eade left. But in the six preceeding years, he had delivered a lot of success.
Blaming Eade alone for the rift between players, board, supporters and coach is unfair and unrealistic. It takes two to tango, and more than one person to argue.

Given our list during Eades reign, just making the finals was not that good.
We only made the one preliminary final during his time.... in 96 !
Eade was the coach ???? He must have something to do with the state of the team at the time of his demise
