As liz said, he's probably been rotated out as only 18 listed players can play any one match. I think the same applied to Jack and O'Dwyer.

I noticed him come down with the coaching staff at quarter time and go back up with them after the break, all dressed up in the official match day coach's gear of red polo black slacks. So looks like he was getting a chance to learn something from the other side of the whiteboard.

Matthew Davis is a real enigma. He took some excellent contested marks, yet he fails to do the simple things well. He made a couple of clangers by dropping simple chest marks and not hitting open targets by foot.

And No. 40 was listed as J.Smith not N.Smith, I'm guessing he was one of the top-ups as there were only 3 numbered above 50 today and only 18 listed players can play. That's why he looked very slight to you liz.

I don't know what rock the pulse reporter crawled out from under. No way either Laidlaw or Davis could be named among the best. And they only accounted for 18 goals out of 25, but added a couple of fictitious ones to Shaw and LRT.

From the SCG scoreboard it was

              Grundy 5
              Shaw, M.Davis 3
Thornton, Simpkin, Brennan, Brabazon, Barlow 2
              Schwarze, Schmidt 1

Think that is wrong. I definitely marked Rowe down for one and Shaw just for two. I think the SCG scorer got that wrong.

Agree. He kicked some nice goals but I would have him in the best. Nowhere near the class and consistency of Schmidt and Moore, or the potency of Grundy.

Not convinced by that. At half-time I made myself a list of the listed players on the ground to work out why the likes of Jack and Flipper weren't playing. And I came to exactly 18, including Nick Smith. Nick is still very slight and I thought it looked like him out on the ground.

It is possible that they only went into the game with 3 top-ups, though if that is the case they must have been playing a man or two short on the ground for much of the game. If that was the case, maybe it explains why at times they were outrun by the Hawks through the middle.
