[QUOTE=Annie Haddad;311102]the umpiring was REALLY FREAKING BAD TONIGHT. worse than i've EVER, EVER seen the game umpired. even worse than bloody siren-gate last year.
QUOTE]Umm........certainly not worse than 2003 against the bummers when B2 took an over head mark and Soloman headbutted him only to get awarded a free for over the shoulder contact........

Then lovett murray threw it in the goal square for a goal.

But, having said that - this game was right up there. I think it tells the story - Hall 0-4, Hird 4-0 free kicks.

I have red and white blinkers when I watch a Swans game. I saw most of the frees that the Swans gave away and reluctantly agree with the way the umps paid most of them. In the game of unders and overs I saw a lot that weren't given also. Seems we didn't get the balance right tonight! (Must be the make up for last week where Barry got a goal from a free?)

Lots of ways we could have won the game, not slipping over as much, being more direct with our disposals and started the game at the same time as the Bombers did (not allowing them a flying start) etc

I thought that was one of the worst umpiring performances that I have seen for a long while.

I think that I need to Email the AFL for a copy of the rules....! I used to understand the game, but now I am unsure.

The new rules have ruined the game in my eyes! (Hird could play for another 5 years with these rules fall over a lot and get frees all over the paddock)

It's not a game for the strong players anymore.

Still shaking my head at the one against Hall in the third. From where I was sitting in the Bradman I was pretty much behind him and I was watching to see if his hands went in the back, but it was just good use of the body, certainly didn't look to be in the back. You can't penalise a player just for being too strong! And the 50m was just as unfair as Richo's last week if not more so as Hall was in the square and just had to turn and kick. The HTB against Eski was the other one that really stood out as the Bombers rebounded and scored a goal from it.

              Regarding this thread:

Free Kick Count in the end:

              Swans 18
              Bombers 22

There were at least 4 goals for the Bombers that came from free kicks and 1 that I counted. That was from what I remember at being at the ground.
And the rest of their goals probably came from our dispicable turnovers. Blame the umps as much as we want but we handed that game to Essendon on a platter because of our pure ineptness with delivery. There we countless times when we just did nothing kicks into the forward line, both on the run and from set kicks.

We play like this far too often this year and have gone down by less that 3 goals in all 5 loses. Get this part of our game right and we are 10/0. So what is going on in the heads Roosey. Throw us a frickin bone will ya because it is driving us bonkers.

In that one Hall used his hands. I thought it was in the side, but if you use your hands now, the umpires seem to be all over it (if you are near the back and they expect you to be pushing). Yet at the same time, Davis was clearly pushed in the side in the 3rd qtr while trying to mark, which should have been a free kick.

The bigger problem than the umpires is the new rules system - Anderson has stuffed the game!

That's right. It's not even that the Bombers played well. We should have won comfortably by 5+ goals if we had turned up to play.

Again, the issue is not so much with the ones they give, but the ones they don't give.

Agreed - some absolutely shocking work in the midfield that led to turnovers.

I think Roosy summed that part up perfectly here:

"It's difficult, all losses are hard. It's certainly up there in the more frustrating category," he said.

"Immediately after the game your emotions fluctuate a bit, but there's nothing you can do about it. You just move on."
I forgot to add that I sure as hell hope a few players haven't got visits to the tribunal after this game. Goodes, Peebles and Bevan all connected big time with some of their opponents

Though another one was when Magic got absolutely smashed off the ball near the goal posts going for the ball in the 4th quarter and the Dons player rushed it behind so they could start proceedings again.

am i the only person who gets really frustrated when the ball is handballed into traffic? why do the swans do this?

as an aside, once again, it seems that TV coverage doesn't really do this game justice. i can really sense and feel the anger of those that were there as opposed to the tv audience. i'm still shaking with feelings of rage.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yep, I didn't mean to suggest he didn't use his hands at all, more the fact that it wasn't in the back so much as it was in the side. Just another reason why this is one of the stupidest rules ever. Someone should compile a video of all the free kicks given under this new rule and send it into the AFL.

As much as I'd love to blame the umpires for the loss, and the umpiring was certainly a factor, I keep going back to the number of turnovers and poor deliveries into the 50.
