I imagine it is a back ended contract anyway, with us paying him a large proportion the year he moves into veteran status, so that only half is included in the cap.

Hope he does move into superstar form.... Because no matter what they've been paying him so far this season, it's been far, far to much....

Pretty sure they changed the rules a couple of years ago to prevent this. For salary cap / veteran rule purposes, I think the contract is smoothed out for its duration. So the only amount you can exclude is 50% of the average annual contract value.
