            Should of waited for the end of the year.... The way he's been playing we could have saved some room in our salary cap.

              haha hopefully we will save money by doing it now because his pending move into superstar form!

              I imagine it is a back ended contract anyway, with us paying him a large proportion the year he moves into veteran status, so that only half is included in the cap.

                  Pretty sure they changed the rules a couple of years ago to prevent this. For salary cap / veteran rule purposes, I think the contract is smoothed out for its duration. So the only amount you can exclude is 50% of the average annual contract value.
