Mathews played well, moved it quickly and went forward. Kirk was good from the 3rd quarter, Goodes improved as game went on. Leo was pretty good.
BH seemed to be more concerned with playing for frees than 2nd efforts. Some of the delivery to him was poor.
Malceski was good without being great.

I thought Bevan did some good things in the game today, he wasn't a star but he did look like he deserved his spot in the side.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

BOG for me Spida narrowly from Kirk

Spida was consistent throughout the game, Kirk only had an impact from the 3rd, so I'm not convinced it is Spida narrowly

Slightly off topic but did anyone else think that the goal umpire at the Punt Rd end had a look of Frosty McPherson?

just having a listen to sen , and the hawks supporters are calling in . does it make a change to hear another side winging about the umpires.

Great win, that should get many people off the Hawthorn bandwagon.

No Ablett (Schmidt did OK in his absence), Kennelly out with a knee injury early in the game (might miss a few weeks), Hall MIA and Buddy kicking 6.2 and we still won and I'm sure the bookies would've been happy with the result.

The key to winning was to play the game on our terms, which happened and that left the Hawks frustrated and they choked under pressure and we clawed our way back from the 1st quarter and won the 4 points.

Well done Spida for giving your old teammates a lesson in ruck contests and congrats to Leo for kicking 2 goals that swung the momentum into our favour. Hall has to really step up against Collingwood...

                      sssh, dawson may hear you.

FWIW, I thought we had the 50-50s go our way for a change. The HTB on both sides was again very questionable, but again we got the majority of the decisions.

Edit: Just read a HS report that Jolly was injured in the 2nd half. Now that I think about it, didn't see him at all in the last quarter. Hope he's alrite, anyone know what happened?

hall is getting a dud run with the umps and some poor delivery, but he looks a bit like he has given up at times.

An ok win, good to get one before the break.

Fosdike was also good - he finds space on the bigger grounds.

Kirk was inspirational after half time, Spida best on ground and Leo, Richards and Matthews did some good things.

Booing seemed to work on two levels - the umpires were much kinder to us this week and the more Spida was booed, the better he became.

Like others have mentioned, we need LRT back as we miss a tall backman. Franklin is a great player, but he's also 6'6" and hard for us to match up on.

Hope Kennelly isn't out for too long, but credit to Schmidt for his work. Also thought Bevan was better today. The free against him right in the goal mouth was there, but a little unlucky.

Nick Davis is a beautiful kick!

Strangely, I thought it was Franklin's speed and agility rather than his height that caused Craig Bolton to struggle. Not sure LRT would have helped in this case.

One instance I noticed was O'Loughlin was tackled (ITB?) yet he managed, in a second effort, to quickly pass the ball off. In that situation, Hall looks for the free kick while the opposition quickly switches play. He really looks off his game at the moment, but the good news is his best is yet to come.
