    One sided footballers

If we've got the whole umpiring thing out of our system perhaps we can cast a critical eye over other aspect's of Sat night's performance.

One thing that stood out for me was how many of our players are one-sided & the number of times that ends in tears for us when the opposition is crowding things up. The lefties (as is often the case) are the main culprits - Kirk, O'Keefe, Barry in particular have no right foot to talk of and of the righties, perhaps only Davis & Goodes look really comfortable on their left. I would think this was an essential skill of an AFL player in this day & age, & I know lefties have been getting away with this for time immemorial, but it just seems to me we were exposed because of this a number of times on Saturday.

And frankly some of the natural foot kicking wasn't special either.

Jon Simpkin on the rookie list is genuinely two-footed.

Kirk kicks equally well off both.

I find it immensely frustrating in general that so many AFL footballers are one sided. I believe it is far worse than it used to be.

The Swans are pretty bad at using the opposite side.

Davis is the only one who will do it naturally.
Goodes is pretty comfortable, but I can't think at the moment that he is much better than just okay at it.

I'm struggling to think of another player who is even okay.

In fairness to Kirk, his kicking is not what keeps him in the team so it is not really relevant. I do wish that we had a midfielder or two with "silky skills"...

Richards looks quite comfortable on both sides, and both Fosdyke and Mathews don't seem to lose much when kicking off the left. I think Schneider has snapped a few good goals recently off his right.

Ah - Schneider was the other one I was trying to think of.

So did I and I agree with which side is Kirks strong side?

Even so, there were times on Sat night when if he had any penetration on his right foot at all he could have cleared defence easily instead of doubling back into traffic on his left.

Of course, we've all forgotten a certain left footer who could have sealed the game if he could snap on his right. Sad face...

At least he hit the goal post - with his natural left he would have hit the behind post at best!
