Thank god only 50000 plus turned up the Prelim last year!!

We really seem to have an issue with big crowds...05's Prelim and Grand Final must be the only time we have won in front of 70000 plus crowds in recent times.
thats a load of rubbish mate

*in 2003 round 21: 72,393 we lost by 18 bcoz the pies were a better drilled unit (even tho lions thumped em in the g/f)
*prelim final: 71,500 we were down 55-52 heading into the 4th qtr. 7 unanswered goals to the lions....who won 3 in a row and made 4 straight grand finals.
    * grand final 2005 92,000+ we were more desperate in the 1% plays
    * prelim 2005 73,500: we had momentum going into the final term and ran away with it with fresh legs and heaps of centre clearances
    * prelim 2006 62,000+ we were challenged by pavlich and co but it was the dockers who suffered from stage fright
    * grand final 2006 97,200+ lost by a point could have gone either way in the last 2 mins
    * round 1 2007: 62,000+ gave west coast too big a lead, 36 at half time
    * round 12 2006 61,000+ didak and licuria played brilliantly and came to play, pies were ahead by 43 in the final term but we got some consolation goals (as i was walking out of the ground....was so shocked we got within 13 in that one)

so yeah no issue with big crowds
bigger issue with what we're doing on the field
the crowd doesn't play a factor as it used to, remember "fortress sydney in 96-97???" 20 straight wins at home.

playing at subiaco in front of 43,000 eagles fans would make as much noise as a grand final roar (esp when eagles r hot). if they doubles the capacity of that ground they sell out most games, poor bastards have 1 sport to follow (and the western force, pfft)

collingwood gets 10,000 to training sessions (the fans r losers!!) which is more than we get to a local footy game.

i think we should plan for some more day games
    maybe saturday day?
    or sunday twilight?
or even take on friday night footy for nrl.

im getting sick of watching "tragic 1 point losses and come from behind only to lose night matches"

So you say Damien is talking rubbish, then agree with him?

Since when? The only time they get crowds like that is when/if they make a GF. I think your either dreaming about Collingwood, or believing their own hype.

sorry i just read it and it does seem like im backing what he said
what i implied was that we have played in front of hostile and large crowds in adelaide, subiaco, telstra and mcg/telstra dome and have won or lost by a few, so i dont think thats a factor

it woul be taking a huge compliment away from collingwood to say the 64,222 crowd played a part in us scoring 3 goals to 3 qtr time. had collingwood not had the yips in front of goal it would have been an 80+ point margin by 3qtr time.

i recall a big game vs st. kilda in 1998 where there was about 36,500 at the scg and we lost by 101 points, and the crowd played no part in us losing whatsoever.

i've seen coverage on afl footy show in years gone by when they'd have at least 5,000 attending a training session @ victoria park. and b4 a grand final even more.

mate, collingwood is the team everyone hates in the afl. hell would freeze over if i ever barracked for them! however, i respect the fact that as a club/business to have sponsors like lexus/adidas/emirate/wizard and co and get ridiculously big crowds to games even away interstate
games, it's a tribute to their fans.

pies tickets are given away with a carton of winnie blues at k-mart.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
