To say that people aren't true fans if they don't stay to the end is just ludicrous.
Who cheered ? Who booed ?

I came up from Melbourne for the game and the biggest disappointment for me was the the amount of so called Swans supporters who left in the 3rd quarter. Me i don't care win, draw or lose i stick it out to the end, ok it was ugly and what a huge crowd it just leaves me totally numb to think what the future hold for the Swans. But then again I'll head down to Geelong next Saturday ever hopeful
and always passionate.
We have 30000 members, 9100 of which are based in Victoria. That means that we have just over 20000 members in Sydney. That means that we had up to 40000 blow-ins at the match. Sadly that means they went they don't get "value for money", they get up & leave. We get their money for tickets. They don't feel they are getting entertained. They get up & go.
The only positive out of this predicament is that we got the income for these people attending. And got our 2nd 60000+ crowd of the year. And may have planted the seed of interest in having some of them returning again in future. (Then again, any first timer who attended on Saturday night would NOT have been impressed at the spectacle atmosphere & Swans performance)

Members are allowed to comment. It is their club. It is their investment, both financially AND (more importantly) emotionally.
As far as I'm concerned, leaving is an indication that you don't really care about the result either way. It has not gone the way you liked, so you indicate your indifference by getting up and leaving. And that you will do something 'better' with your leisure time.

How do 40K+ people staying until the end let the players know they have let us down?
Leaving means you know the result and now you want to get on with something else in your life. Watching highly-paid footballers, who have done stuff-all when they needed to, mess around in junk time that is meaningless is hardly something that is the difference between a 'real supporter' or not.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I have never left early from a game, never have and never will BUT.... In my opinion, that is the worst ground in the country (I've not been to Kardinia) to get out of - either by car or PT, so perhaps a lot of those that left early where hoping to get a jump start on the crowd.Comment

And I've been following them for a lot less time than you and would also never leave until the final siren. The only time I could see an exception is when you have kids - sometimes I see parents completely overwhelmed by their kids' desire to head and that's fair enough.
Any other reason to leave early is a cop out. It just means you're only interested in the game if all is going well or there's a chance of a win. How would you fare then if your team is languishing at the bottom of the ladder for many seasons? Well, you're probably one of the very people that create those big gaping rows of empty seats at every game until the team finally starts to have a good season.
oh danzar!!!
i've sat through many a game with the team languishing at the bottom of the ladder. it's very depressing, trust me.
as nmw said before, your only real form of showing how disappointed you are when they're playing very badly (as they did against the pies) is to walk out during time on in the last quarter. it's an effective tool - the swans played their best 10 minutes at the end of the game.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

we stayed as it's easier to pack all the crap we take while standing and I wouldn't stand in front of people to do that, although it may have been interesting seeing me stuff jumps and rugs into back packs.
I've never left early but it was the first time I wanted to. I also gave up cheering at half time. If they couldn't be bothered why should I.
My form of protest was to turn my back on them as soon as the siren went, get the bags ready and leave before they left the field.
I even wrote in my record "WE SUCK!!!"
I was hoping by today (Wednesday) I'd be feeling a little more upbeat but alas it's not happening.
It's not good enough with the players we have that they provide that type of performance. Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release

I screamed my heart out all night long. I stayed right to the bitter end. The only time I booed all night was when the idiot squad(ie. umpires) screwed up.
I don't think I could ever leave before the end of a game no matter how badly we are going.Red & White forever.Comment

I think we are being somewhat over-precious in relation to people leaving early in Sydney. That is probably because as Swans supporters from Sydney we are constantly reminded how we know nothing about the game etc etc.
Is anyone going to seriously say that people don't leave early in Melbourne at games? I was at Young & Jacksons to watch Sydney FC last year. There were Richmond fans in the pub at half time! Furthermore when I passed Southern Cross Station when they played Geelong a while back I remared that I thought it was too early for a 5pm match to be finished yet. Then I noted that it was only Richmond fas streaming up the bridge to the station. Nuff said.
I went out a couple of weeks ago. Carlton fans were already on my train at 9:45 odd. That means they'd have left at around the 3/4 time mark.
In Adelaide the fans lreaving is eve more cronic. You get these old fogeys getting up and leaving CLOSE GAMES at the 10 minute mark of the last quarter. Traditional SANFL fans can only scratch their heads at the new fan culture you see amongst Crows fans.
So it is NOT just us, you know!

Nope - it's a cop out. [Insert stubborn smiley here]. I think the best statement you can make is to stay and send a message that your are behind your team, 100% of the game and 100% of the time.
However, I also do not subscribe to the belief that anyone who leaves "is not a real fan" because I don't believe in that statement in any circumstance. You go, you're a fan. You don't, you're not.Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sectorComment
