Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Maybe a 15-14 scoreline is more appealing than a 10-9 scoreline but to me the difference is marginal and pretty much irrelevant compared to the fierceness of the contest.
It should also be noted that a major factor why Swans game are often relatively low scoring is because the opposition tries to match the Swans for contests around the ball. Which, of course, makes sense if it's their best chance of winning. And of course, we shouldn't fail to recognise that many of the games this season in particular have seen the opposition uber-flood the Swans' forward line, a tactic the Swans very rarely resort to and one that directly leads to the chipping around the backline that can get a bit dull.Comment

for me, i love the way they've been playing. the last few years have been edge-of-the-seat footy. after spending so many years watching mediocre, it's been exciting.
admittedly, the stoppages can get a bit tedious at times, but all-in-all, the price of my membership has been well worth it.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

You keep referring to shootouts, as if they are the only other option.
I don't think I've made mention of the resultant scoring rate. All I've said is that I like watching highly contested footy. I've said nothing about the resulting scoreline except to imply that very high scoring goals are almost always the result of very little pressure. You say that's not always the case and I suspect there are one or two exceptions that prove the rule. But that's what they are, exceptions.
However, I'm not talking about those games. I'm talking about ones where there are a reasonable number of goals kicked for the game - say around 30 or so. It is more likely that game will be more interesting than a game where 15 goals are scored in total.

Yep - that would be an exciting highlight tape...
If the game is reduced to one of boredom does it make following the game any more exciting or rewarding that wandering down to the local primary school and watching the four square competition?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The most boring game of footy I have seen in a very long time was the round 8 game this year between the Rooboys and Carlton. The Roos won 22.15 to 20.10 and it was as boring as. The ball just went up one end, kick goal down the other end, kick goal. It was uncontested and BORING. Maybe I am the only person that thought it was bad because I'm used to Swannies games but I can tell you, if you had to choose the better game between my example above and our game V Hawthorn, I'd be VERY surprised if anybody chose the Roos game.Comment

Perhaps that's why no one watches soccer... all that low scoring....Comment

Ahhh...YES. Satisfaction that your team is successful, perhaps I wouldn't watch a replay, but on the other hand the point I think you are missing is that it would be better to have a shot at the Premiership and winning ugly than Carlton's position and playing fast flowing football.Comment

And running near on dead last for the last five seasons to boot!Comment

Would you rather win by kicking 5 goals to 3 or by kicking 15 goals to 13?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
