Wtf Is Going On? Moderation Madness

    Layby
This message has been deleted by goswannie14. Reason: Off topic

This is all that remains of a message posted by Layby in response to BBB's post that started this thread.

From memory, having read it before it was deleted by our ever present moderators, the actual message went something along the lines of:

"Steady on big fella, I can't be everywhere, I actually have an olive tasting to attend on Sunday morning"

I ask the mods Why was this deleted? With the reason "off topic"

    No Swearing
    No abuse
    No personal insults.

Who decides something is on or off topic? How is the off topic determination made.

    Moderation madness.

If you read a lot of Layby's posts I really believe he was just taking the p155. Problem is some people just don't get it.

I expect that this will be deleted for some other reason.

    Now moving on.
I don't think BBB has put himself out to be a supporter of greater worth than anyone else. He was merely wondering why others would rather meet for pre game drinks than watch the stars of tomorrow, and also I guess wondering how some of those same individuals form opinions on why Jesse White should be in the 1's when they haven't actually seen him play.

As pointed out, the next 2 games involving the 2's could be absolute crackers. If you want to see how our up and comers are performing, as he said get out of bed early.

Why do some people over analyze other people's post's and then proceed to tell the rest us what the first poster meant.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Agree. Layby's post was lighthearted fun and inoffensive so can't understand why it was deleted. Oh and I also don't agree that it was off topic, he was saying he had other commitments hence it being on topic IMO.
Also agree that BBB wasn't putting him/herself as a better fan merely commenting about folk lamenting the promotion of senior players whilst not actually watching said players play.

Send the 2's back down here and I will be there with bells on. Oh for the good old days when you would rock up to watch South at least by half time in the 2's

I'll take second best with the 2's playing every second week in a comp where there is plenty of competition and the chance we will get beaten often enough. I dont think it is any coincidence that a lot players from Melbourne clubs have come on quickly over the past few years. They are getting good solid footy every week in the second best comp in the nation.

I think Layby can look after himself and take any issues his has up with the mods directly.

On topic though, I believe that playing well or not playing as well doesn't mean as much in the ACTAFL - I have no doubt some players would lift in the intensity of AFL and others would fail.

I am of the belief that players like DOK and J. White would lift in the Seniors - I can't see how Jesse will develop for instance playing in the backline for a team winning by 200 points.

I imagine it is really hard for some key position players to stay motivated in the reserves.

Don't doubt that. Layby is no doubt all grown up, although sometimes I wonder about his choice of social activities. Olive tasting!! What is that??Just amazed at the reason for a post, that was IMO an attempt at humour, being deleted. Or is this the new world of RWO where everyone must conform to a mods standards.

On topic. I have for a long time been concerned by players development in the ACTAFL, and if the AFL was to re establish the Reserves competition, I believe Sydney would benefit immensely from it. From a selfish pov, it would mean that I could then revisit that long forgotten pleasure of watching the 2's, picking a rookie as a lovechild and watching him develop through to eventual regular in the seniors.

Yes that it is........certainly made the WAFL boys look very very very pedestrian earlier in the year.

I think this sums up my attitude as well. First it was the laughable matches against SFL teams where we played with only 17 men. Now it is now horribly much more credible ACTAFL. A lot of times you actually felt yourself going for the beleaguered opposition because of the lopsided scores. This was when I completely stopped having that much interest in the reserves. Because when players like David "I can't kick" Spriggs were kicking 6 goals per game, you start realising the level of opposition you are playing against.

Personally when I was living in Sydney Sunday was the only day I could sleep-in, working in travel where you had to work on a Saturday. So I'd be buggered turning up at 9am to watch a match against some team called the Wildcats that ends up 235-24.

Yes, in theory I probably should have watched more of the 2s. Maybe if games were more of a contest, then maybe I would.

If they put the Swans in the VFL I'd be watching every week.

I remember the good old days of the real Reserves comp. I was often at the G when the gates opened and watched the complete game, then they moved the reserves over to the Punt road oval and if you wanted to go and watch them you had to get someone to save you a seat in the ground. It just got all too hard.
Even Geelong stopped the AFL or Falcons game that is the usual curtain raiser last week as they wanted to save the ground for a junior comp thats on during the holidays.
Sydney people are lucky to be able to get a curtain raiser match of some kind.

I would love to see the Swans entered back into a VFL competition as South Melbourne. Ground wise - it would probably mean sharing the Port Melbourne ground, which is seen as one of the better grounds in the VFL

Yes I know there is an increased cost in areas such as travel, but there are also potential revenue gains, e.g. memberships

How many Vic based members would pay an extra, lets say $50 a year, to add a VFL Swans memership to their package

                            10,000 members @ $50 each = $500,000

You may even be able to grow the 10,000 memberships as I imagine alot of people choose not to become members because they only get 5-6 games

There would have to be additional sponsorships available from VIC-based companies trying to get a foothold in Sydney or vice versa...I am thinking the utilities like Origin Energy. Get a company like Virgin to sponsor, their colours are essentially red (and white) which may give discounts on travel...or Qantas...also red and white?

There would be additional merchandise...sales of South Melbourne jumpers etc

i'd rather sit in a bar than watch the ressies play in a second rate reserves comp.
i'll like to see how the youngins play when they're promoted to the senior squad ... if they make it, you know they're talented (or talented enough to be picked).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I doubt the reserve comp gives a true indication of the ability of our young players given the very lopsided score lines. This could also be a reason for people not going along early to watch them (or chosing to go to a bar instead).
