    ROK's thoughts on Geelong

Interesting to read O'Keefe's report on the Geelong game this week. Normally he repeats the same old 'one week at a time' thing, but this week he actually has an opionion.

I cant link to the article as the only way to read it is if it sent via email as far as I know. If you want to subscribe to ROK's report then travel to

Here is what he had to say:

"I think the highest level in any sport should have the best possible facilities available to them. The sport is played at the elite level, the players use the best possible equipment, fans pay a premium for tickets or membership, and the media companies pay the highest price to have access to the sport - so why have grounds and facilities which aren't really top class?

"Some people may disagree with my opinion and that's fine, I'm not saying that I'm right, but I am entitled to it, and I think all top level games should be played at the best arenas and grounds in each city and move away from the suburban grounds we used to play at.

"These days each ground needs to be designed specifically for football, or if that's not possible at least modified to make it safe for the players, and the facilities need to be world class..."

Guess he doesnt like the Geelong road trip then, and is probably glad that Oputus Oval closed down.
    Onwards to Victory!

What about Manuka oval then? Where does that ground fits in?

Probably more in reference to him sliding off the ground in the last quarter and smacking his knee into the concrete below the fence.... Ouch!

With no free Against the Geelong player, when A Swan (Malceski ??) pushed a cat into the fence earlier and got penalised.

The ground is skinny and he may also be referring to the straight line wings.

The ground resembles Flemington racecourse in shape. Long straights with curved ends. Last year our players were passing to people 20 rows back on the wing (so whats new goes the chorus). It's just that it was more exaggerated.

I laughed when I read my weekly email from ROK.

Didn't you notice? He never mentioned anything about the game. Not a word.

I was expecting " good teams win on crap grounds!", can't wait for next week's installment now.

                Here's a preview:

WE played Fremantle this week. What about Mol's feat for the new club record.... and Goodesy's 200 games ........Congrats to Dempster's 50.....
                That's all for this week.

Cough, cough, no game reference again!

He was taught by the master , Mr Roos, who is brilliant at talking about other things, players and so on, and never addressing his lack of alternative game plans. that makes up 10 minutes of every training session

                    Because he writes it

I subscribed a few years back but I don't really read it now. I did read this weeks though and I did notice that "he" didn't mention the game at all, just dribbled on about suburban grounds.

All this creative writing that the Swans staff get to do ...

                      .
A lot like Telstra Stadium in fact. We should be used to it.

It would be really refreshing to read something from the Swans that goes along the lines of "We were terrible & are letting not only ourselves but our (wet & sorry) supporters down" But that would be classed by the boffins who censor everything that comes out of the Gulag Driver Avenue as being "unnecessarily negative marketing-wise" & "not condusive to developing the brand".

The SCG isn't exactly a first class AFL ground if he wants a serious debate about it.

                            Most dodgy place ever.

I paid $45 to sit on a park bench for 3 hours. I felt like i had gone back in time..
