    Heritage round 2008

I'm not real big on these theme rounds but this would get me involved: Why not give us Sydney Swans fans the opportunity to turn up for a Saturday afternoon game at 2.10pm like the Mexicans? Time for morning sport with the kids, a decent lunch at home or near the ground, a footy game with crap beer, then a debrief at at the pub before dinner. That's what I call heritage. Surely for one Saturday 7/10 can organise something!

I think the main reason that doesn't happen, and indeed hardly happens anywhere in the league any more, is because country footy down south and the Sydney AFL is struggling for supporters and players.
Using Sydney as an example, 90 per cent of Sydney AFL matches across all grades are played on Saturday afternoon and neither side wants a clash.
    Why?
There are a lot of people who are involved in SAFL clubs who would not be able to go to the Swans game - thus lowering the crowd.
On the other side, the SAFL clubs' attendances would drop significantly below their already dire level because a lot of people would go to the SCG or sit at home and watch the Swans on TV.

If the Swans were to play Saturday afternoon in Sydney which, correct me if I'm wrong but they never have, you would have to switch all Sydney AFL matches to Sunday. Possible, but a logistical nightmare and would create quite a bit of discussion, a fair bit of it negative.

I can see it now:::: "I can't believe the arrogance of the Swans. Once again
they are ignoring grass roots footy and throwing it into chaos just for their own interests."
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.
