It also robs us of the opportunity to play Craig Bolton on Nathan Brown. I'm afraid Bevo might end up with the job!

This is bizarre - Bevan picked ahead of Dempster and Richards, and Brennan in ahead of Laidlaw, and Grundy gets yet another go!

Grundy getting another go is the least puzzling IMO. We aren't going to develop key defenders in the reserves, and I don't think it is fair to draw any conclusions on his potential back there based purely on last week's game. This is as good a game as any to have another look, especially with Leo out.

But Brennan ahead of half a dozen other players who have played a lot more consistent, high quality football with the reserves team this year than he has seems not just bizarre but a little unfair also. Unless, that is, they've already decided that Rowe, Jack and Barlow will be retained (plus Laidlaw, Moore, Thornton etc) but want to find something out about Brennan in the last few weeks.

Seems he's been included for his speed and versatility:

Roos said he would add some spark to the team.

"He's a really valuable player," he said.

"He can play at both ends of the ground, he's got really good speed and he can catch it."

Is there any confirmation that Crouch has been added to the long term injury list? Or is there another way for rookies to be elevated mid season?

Got more of the ball but did less with it.

Can't believe people are unhappy. Dempster is genuinely ordinary. Yes Teddy's tall but he hasn't done anything for weeks.

On the other hand, Laidlaw has speed (be surprised if he's not notably quicker than Brennan), can play at both ends of the ground and can catch it. He can also kick it too. Not to mention the fact he's barely been outside the list of "best players" in the reserves all season long, unlike Brennan whose only made it in the last fortnight or so.

He plays one game, creditably enough given the conditions and opponent, and then gets dumped.

I know it's not you, hammo, my argument is with. I am just particularly pissed off that Laidlaw hasn't been given more of a go - firstly last week when he'd seemingly have been an ideal inclusion, and then again this week when Roos finally decides to drop a couple of the seniors.

I don't disagree with your comments Liz, but something I was told at the Ainslie reserves game (the afternoon of the Collingwood game) may explain.

I was talking to one of the trainers I have known for years, when Brennan's name was mentioned he said "You wouldn't believe how poor his body was when he came up here. More niggles and things wrong with him then you can think of. He is just starting to be able to train properly and don't be surprised if he improves big time from here"

Since then, as you know, he has been very good.

Fair enough BBB. And I don't really have any issues with Brennan getting a chance.

My issue is with Laidlaw - in particular - not getting a chance when, at least to an outsider, he looks to have done everything right and have a lot to offer. I do realise there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know. And maybe Laidlaw did something during the Geelong game (that we may not have noticed) that pissed the coaches off or persuaded them that he's not quite ready yet.

I bloody cant believe they`ve kept Grundy(Defence) and dropped Teddy. OK Teddy has had a couple of quiet games but in a tight match I`d trust Ted to stand tall before Reg.

Do they want LRT in the team for the finals? This would have been a good game to bring him back in, to start to find some touch in prep for the final series.

Im stummped by Dempsters ommision, Grundy retained in defence and Laidlaw not considered. But not being privy to the inside information and reasons for this weeks selections. Could be an attitude or training issue?

Richmond have great pace across HFF but probably arent as tall as they have been, I would guess Brennan would play in defence maybe on Brown?

Ive been on the eski to midfield bandwagon and said before he really does play like a classic wingman, luv seeing him named there. - he can still start from HB and play through the midfield.

Our midfield need to be on the ball this week as Richmonds forward line could kick a few if given quality supply.

                      Hope its an entertaining game

                      Cheers

With regular senior players fit, it will difficult for Grundy to get much game time in the forward line. But we do have needs for someone his size in defence. This is a great opportunity to test him out against someone like Hughes or Jack Riewoldt. The Staker matchup was a bit harsh for Grundy first up. Whether Grundy is seen as a realistic key defender could have a big impact on the Swans' list management.

I think Roos knows that Laidlaw is going to make it, but there must be big questions about whether to keep Brennan for next year. Not sure if this applies to Bevan as well, or they hope for a Macca type resurrection.

Maybe they've decided on Vogels' future already. In any case, you can't play everyone.

Obviously, they are doing a bit of experimentation this week, and why not?

As was the case last week I'm left to wonder if there will be another l,ate change to the team this week.

Have a feeling that Kennelly or Hall may sit out another match.
