As a stalwart supporter of Triple M (Much Maligned McVeigh), I have to ask - am I the only only one who thought he was our Worst On Ground? Two inside 50s RIGHT DOWN THE THROAT of opposition players, OOF under no pressure? Back to his indecisive, unconfident worst, imo. Not for dropping him though.Last edited by voodooguru; 29 July 2007, 01:36 AM.I was wrong about Gerard and his hair.

I'd like to watch the video before passing final judgment, but I do recall a couple of turnovers that made me cringe. Plus his opponent Bowden got a bit of it.Comment

Not wanting to sound like a miserable git, but as 66 point wins go, I reckon that performance was about as ordinary as it gets. Which is not to say the Swans were awful - clearly they weren't and they were never really threatened, despite the commentary team trying to make it sound like a contest early on. I just don't think they ever really got themselves out of third gear and there were some pretty ordinary skill errors that any decent team would have punished. I also thought a lot of the forward thrusts were butchered badly.
Other than the sensational performance by B2 on Richo (assisted by woeful delivery to him but that should take nothing away from Bolton's performance given the effectiveness of his spoiling and lack of frees given away) and signs that Bazza is getting closer to his bustling, bruising best, I reckon it was hard to pick a Swan who had anything other than a so-so game.
Kennelly maybe - I'm with the view that he looked reasonably comfortable out there and delivered the ball forward pretty well. O'Keefe was maybe not far off his best. Kirk almost never plays a bad game and he was solid as always but it wasn't up there with his best. Spida and Jolly looked like they were going to dominate early but didn't really go on with things.
Davis delivered on the scoreboard but his opponent ran off him a far bit and probably had the better of him in the first half in one-on-one contsts. Bevan and Mathews were solid without being spectacular. Jude was reasonable but again, a reasonable outing against that opposition is nothing to write home about.
Didn't think Teddy was awful, as others have suggested. Indeed, in the first quarter he was amongst the Swans' best. He probably got worse as the game went on but not bad enough to get a lambasting.
The Eski was so down on his normal game you have to wonder if he caught a bit of the Ablett / Schneider bug from last week. But you're not going to bag a guy for having one bad night out in a season.
Reg was OK I thought - nothing to drool over but he linked up a couple of times well down the ground.Comment

generally agree with your post however. sitting down behind the interchange, we observed a real lack of intensity on the part of both teams. at all times we felt like we were smacking them around the ground but that did not translate into scoreboard dominance until fairly late in the game. loved b2's work (though i think it was one of those nights were a lot of the credit has to go to richo) and barry did have that "burn" happening.
i thought jolly had a good night and was showing real enterprise in his forward movements.then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i knowComment

I have no idea why Bevan gets the ball so much..he is like some kind of wacky, deffective heat seeking missile...without fail when we need to clear the ball from inside defensive 50 or rely on one last defender to spoil or tackle...there he is...just like B1 in th forward line....if we are relying on Bev or Ted to clear the ball from defence while under pressure we are in big trouble.
Of course it doesn't help that we are trying to play like the harlem globetrooters with a hangover up forward.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

I am certainly glad that the Bevo story improved after I bagged him in the first quarter. I appreciate the points you raised in his defence but, I just get worried when he has the ball close to goal in the back half he and gets that bewildered look on his face.
Thought his defensive pressure when up in the forward 50 was terrific and am certainly must less anxious when he has the ball up there rather than 20 metres out from our goal.Comment

The other great story of last night was the game of Ryan O'Keefe. His overhead contested marking was fantastic. The Dalai Lama appears to be playing two centre half forwards in rotation - O'keefe and Magic. Baz is being played from the goal square as a genuine full forward with Davis crumbing. Appeared to work very well last night particularly as the Tiges ran out of puff and their midfield got ragged and couldn't flood back. We basically have a reconfigured forward line. Be interesting to see how it goes against a slow and loose defense like Collingwood.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

But the highlight of last night to me is the fact that Barry Hall was the Barry Hall of old. He was intimidating, he was NOT dropping easy marks. He was breaking tackles & was accurate and direct in front of goal. He didn't seem to be worrying about marking contests and giving away free kicks either. And hence was a far more confidence aggressive physical representation of himself than he has been at other stages of this season.
Let's face it, we are a million times better team when Barry Hall is throwing his body around at CHF or FF. BUT I still want him to have a big game against a top quality FB like Glass or Scarlett.

My recollection was that it was Schneider in the goal square and as I commented to the lady sitting in front of me he was only doing what the man on the mark would have been doing had they bothered to have one. As there was no man on the mark Brennan should have just played on a kicked right in front to ensure there was no chance of him missing.Bring it on!Comment
