I suppose there are big issues with signage, corporates etc but it's amazing to think a crowd of 70,000 awaits for a Sunday afternoon fixture. Some greater flexibility would be great.

I like the SCG. Have been going there for years but i have to agree that Telstra is better for viewing and the atmosphere is great when u get 50 thou plus. The should move more games over to homebush.

What choice have we ever had? Boycotting matches & watching them on tele?

If you want a top notch ground, check the Gabba out for size. Great viewing, excellent atmosphere, great amount of food and drink outlets, modern and clean amenities. I'm going to work out how to do the buses as well this time around. Have never done that before.

They used to be able to do it in Melbourne. Why are things so inflexible in Sydney? Do they not have enough linen tablecloths for the corporates? Not even champagne flutes and kitchens that can cook 500 'cygnes a l'orange' for the hoi-pilloi? Will the suits not travel out to Homebush at the last minute?

The fact is a Swans-Hawks last round showdown for a top 4 place could draw 60000+. That is good for everyone, everyone except the SCG Trust, that is!

I agree Cruiser. I might just start a little thread on Big Footy to see if we can try and put pressure for this due to what the media would call a 'groundswell of community interest'.

I would think signage wouldn't be "that" big an issue for the club as we get the same (or at least simular) ground level signage at TS as we do at the SCG. We just can't put up our own sponsor signage on level's above that at TS like we do at the SCG, because TS have their own signage deals in place for those spots.

At the SCG we have our own which get money from and no doubt we would have to pay money back to some of those sponsors for that one game (some would be willing to let the issue go, some won't), but no doubt the club would be willing to take the hit if a crowd of 60-70,000 was offered to them because of the money that would come in would be greater than money going out paying back sponsors for minor signage deals.

As for corporates, TS has more corporate room, so shifting them would be an issue one would think and we would be open to sell even more corporate deals for the game. So that would be a win-win.

Biggest problem however will be the SCG Trust and the AFL. The Trust won't allow the shift for clear reasons (the don't want to lose the income from the game and the AFL won't allow it on two grounds,

              1) The tickets that have been sold (not like we can inform people of the swap of grounds but they have become very strict on this since 2000.
              2) They would say the swap would be unfair on the Hawks who would be planning to play us on the SCG and not TS and any swap could harm their gameplans (poor Hawks that would be a very good reason to move in my books.)

Yes I would like to play them at TS for the extra crowd and income, but remember if this match is to be for 2nd place, and we go on to win it, the likelyhood is at the moment we play Hawthorn at home at TS the week after anyway and seeing as they haven't played on TS, ask yourself if they play us at TS in week one of the finals do you want them playing us in Round 22 at the SCG or TS?

              I rather the SCG.

Very important question, i wish everyone was so understanding.

I was once subjected to a cotten table cloth at the SCG !

Outrageous and hard to believe i know but a true story.

As I have said before when they create a decent aftermatch function for full club members and they stop closing the bar before the 4th quarter I may consider changing my mind about traveling out to the white elephant.

Also if they didn't have the pink lady prematch crap, the crowd would only have been 45-50k.

I reckon half of those 13,000 people would have still been there seeing the amount of red and white that they were wearing. So that still would have meant a crowd of at least 56,000.

Agreed, there were a hell of a lot of swannies amongst the poncho set, at least half if not more.

                            The SCG is yesterday's ground

I can't believe there are people who prefer the SCG to TS - it has to be the worst AFL venue in the country. It's not even the proper size or shape for football, and the stands are some of the most rundown you will find anywhere. We should play maybe 4-5 games at Telstra Stadium each year and get as far away from the SCG as possible.

No way, what they should have done is bite the bullet at the SCG knock down 3/4 of the stands, increase the playing size and build a proper stadium like the MCG. The white elephant is crapola. It is built in the middle of nowhere, the trains stop at 11.40. You can't get a beer after the start of the 4th quarter. If you want to drink the closest is the crappy hotel. If you do want to go out to the city you have to fight to get on the train.

Now the advantage of the SCG is that after the after match function, friends and I can take a leisurely stroll through Surry Hills, have a few beers (several choices) maybe a bite to eat, and then we can all go home to our separate destinations.

Through convenience of the SCG we can have good time after the game - through the inconvenience of the white elephant we all separate, some catch a bus, some drive, some catch a train and I ride my push bike.

You obviously were'nt at the 2005 semi V cats, or the 1996 prelim V Bombers, pluggers goal record, etc etc etc. The SCG has crap food, too small a ground....but it has an incredible atmosphere, and good close viewing.
I've been to many games of differing sport, at both Stadiums, and the SCG has by far the best atmosphere and the best viewing. At the olympic stadium the seats are set way back from the playing field. So if your seated up at all, your miles from the action, and it doesn't have that cauldron feel of the SCG. When the new stand at the SCG is finished, it will be a fantastic stadium with an unbelievable atmosphere. In the meantime...it'll be ordinary.
