The people next to you at Telstra

I've always wondered what sort of crowd Telstra stadium attracts, so I'd like to open a thread on how you'd classify the people who were sitting in your vicinity at Telstra stadium games.

    Here's mine:

Ticket Type: 3 match pass. Behind southern goals.
To the Left: Older couple. Minimal shouting. Average knowlegde of the game.
To the Right: Young teens. Full on swans gear.
In Front: Big family group. Minimal knowlegde (kids play soccer not AFL). Good baracking.
    Behind: N/A - last row!

Northern End behind the goals. Swans Members Reserve.

In front: Group of 4, probably brothers, maybe uncle(??) Mid-Eastern ethnicity, very quiet, intent. Age range 10-12 to mid 30's. No gear but swans supporters.

On left: Group of 3 older ladies, all Anglos, one of whom was in the Pink Lady assembly. Geared up. For the most part strong supporters, got into spriucking for team, I.e. "Sydney...Sydney...etc", weak on knowledge but enjoyed the game and sang the theme song.

On right and behind: Strong Swans supporters, all Anglos, opiniated but repetitive, hated umpires (McLaren, in particular), WASP types, ages all over the place: Pop aged mid 70s, very vocal, knew every by their nicknames. Dad middle aged, good understanding, obviiously committed to team. Mums and kids (behind) there for a good time had some fun with Pop and obviously there to enjoy the night as a family.

Behind on left: Midlle aged couple, very quiet, may even have been Saints supporters.

Why is so much energy wasting on discussing the type of footy supporter a sydney fan is. It's like some obsessives want us to follow the lead of the compulsive obsessives down south! Thanks but no thanks!

Just be glad we get so many people at a swans match and focus on the positive of this regardless if they decide to scream "Ball" "Ref" "Penalty" etc etc.

Puh-leasse. We'll leave the chardonnay to suburban Victorians (just look at Kath and Kim) while we drink viognier. And fish sprog makes me nauseous - up here we eat finely grated truffle over camembert.

Wardy darrrling, pass me the Yalumba Virgilius please.

FWIW, I had a group of 5 liquored-up league supporters behind me listening to the dragons vs Souths game on radio (I had an update every minute and souths eventually won). As league matches dont run as long as afl, they got into the game after about half time, but didnt seem too knowledgeable. However, they were full of voice and encouragement/scorn and I found it quite amusing - Mclaren bore the brunt of it and none of them called him a ref! I'd much prefer to be in a section with people who are like this as opposed to the quieter sections where if I scream and shout abuse, people eye me with a "shutup you idiot" look.

An awesome night for me, ran into some old high school friends who I hadn't seen for years who are passionate about the Swans as well

I still haven't got over the pathetic atmosphere in the PF last year.

It was a PF - wake up and make some noise people!

There were 16 of us in Aisle 120 two front rows (Members Reserve). To our right were a family of Saints Supporters. The father kept spitting over the fence onto the field and the oldest daughter who was about 12 or 13 was a feral and kept asking us to fight her.

Behind us were a group of a couple of families. At least one of the families had come down from Newcastle. Have seen them at a game last year, but not sure if they are members or not. There was a man that screamed at McLaren the whole game. I liked him!

To our left was a group of younger guys, fairly quiet except one that was wearing a Weagles jersey. Maybe they were quiet coz they weren't really supporting any particular team, just the game.

Our group was a mix of 4 members, a couple of friends that come to games when they can and really enjoy it, then a couple of first-timers who all ahd a great time and showed interest in coming again. For me, Telstra games are a great opportunity to bring friends that arent members along and introduce them to the game, even if they have no idea what is going on. We cant do that at the SCG this year as there arent guarenteed seats together.

If it bugs you so much that our team is now in Sydney go follow Carlton or something.
And another thing It's Eski or Mal and not the stupid name you are trying to force on everyone. Melcho..what a stupid and silly nickname.

Says Miss "Let's knock the top of a bottle of Grange before the Grand Final" Wardy!

I had some caviar (but only Sevruga) last week, served with a passable French champagne. No chardonnay though - there was only a very average Californian one available. And my voice has largely recovered from shouting abuse at McLaren on Saturday night.

Stereotypes are lazy. I sit with a friend who just joined this year - and others who watched the whole of Warwick Capper's (pre-porn) career. And the only common thread I could pick was that just about all of us were rigid with nerves that the Swans might blow their chances - and were ecstatic when the team stood up well (including some unlikely heroes) and moved one step closer to September.
