    Davis missing???

There seems to be two schools of thought on Davis's game on the weekend.

    1. He went missing

    2. He played a defensive role on Fisher, and did exceptionally well.

Is this the final spot of the leopard to change?...or Davis once again showing his inconsistancy.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Interesting. I was certainly of school 1 on the night - but both Nick & ROK were very quiet & so were their respective foils Fisher & Gram.Given the defensive flavour of the night, it may well be that 2. is correct.

Whatever the case, the goal after the 3rd qr siren was worth a family bucket of gold.

Does anyone have his TOG % for the game from the hun?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Sacrificed his game for the team. He only needs a few touches to have an impact.

I expected to get the so-called 15% better from Nick this season. So far, that's been crueled by injury and the side's general lack of form. If he kicks two or three and sets up a couple, you beauty. Especially against Gee Long, if we get that far.

I said to Big Al at Manuka that if Davis averages a couple of goals a week I'll be happy with his form. When the siren went for 3/4 time on Saturday night and davis had the ball, the guy behind me echoed my thought when he said, "If anyone can kick this one it's Davis." It was the impetus the side needed when going into the 3/4 time break. Whilst he will never get the amount of ball that say a Kirk does, he is just as important a player. That goal on Saturday night is just one example of how important he is.

94% is well above his season average for TOG; considering Nicky D started on the bench as, assuming it wasn't complete trickster antics or Nicky D didn't have his boots done up yet, it looked as if their initial intention was to tag Fisher with Bevan, it is possible that Nicky D only went to the bench the once (if at all) after coming onto the ground. Reading hopefully not too much into his TOG

              1. The coaching staff were pleased with the job that he was doing- Roos has shown that he is willing to bench Davis if he is not pleased with the job he is doing
              2. His role had been altered on Saturday night- his trips to the bench usually come after a short stint in the midfield or a longer stint across half forward, Davis did neither until the 3rd quarter and spent the entire first half playing FF

                Option 2 for me......

He's def getting a lot more of his possessions up the ground this year compared to last.

As has been said, we only need two out of him a week and he's done his job.

He went back and kicked the goal on 3qr time. The only player in our side who would have done so too. Went a long way towards us winning the game.

We're never going to get consistency out of him, it's just the way he is. But we haven't got anyone else who can turn a game like him so you have to take the good with the bad.

Exactly - I would rather have him take the kick after the siren anytime than anyone else - yes he is a bit of show poney, but he is the man for that very occassion and lets face it he has provided us with some very exciting times in recent years. When he is on song and decides to throw himself into tackling for the ball he can go like a man possessed, I wish we could see more of it, but with the finals looming, perhaps he is just getting warmed up - fingers crossed.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Take your point, but what has he done since? Those words describe him to a tee IMO

Ok - he hasnt had the best 2006 or 07 - but when it is all said and done, without him in the side on the night of the Semi Final in 05 there is no way that we would have gone on any further - he was the ONLY player capable of kicking goals in the final quarter that night - others tried and failed - he did the business, with out him there would have not been a progression to the preliminary final and beyond to win the ultimate prize. I reckon he can dine out on that forever! Just like Leo has been with the Grand Final "Mark" and to be honest Leapin Leo hasnt been all that consistently flash in the last 2 seasons either.
I have a feeling though - it is all going to fall into place - Davo will play a blinder and all will be good with the world once more.
