And you'll probably want to weight those against the avg. possessions for each player.

    Bevan 12.2
    Goodes 18.8

    Therefore Bevan 1.9/12.2 = 0.155
    Goodes 3.3/18.8 = 0.175

    AHA Bevan > Goodes........ :-)

    mmmmmm, Uncontested possies???

    Bevan 8.8
    Goodes 11.0

    Bevan 1.9/8.8= 0.21
    Goodes 3.3/11.0 = 0.3

AHA, Bevan still >> Goodes :-)

I'm firmly entrenched in connolly's corner. I was critical of his initial selection because there had been little in the seconds to suggest he should've got a crack. However in the past month (including last Sat. night) he has been very good and extremely undserving of threads like this.

So now you're trying to convince us that Paul Bevan is a better and more valuable player than Adam Goodes. Can I have what you're on?

I'm being facetious (post now edited with smilies) but those stats back up the fact that Bevan has been no where near as bad as others have been carrying on, with particular reference to clangers/turning the ball over.

I have always been a Bevan HATER. Couldn't stand the bloke and cringed everytime he was anywhere near the ball. My 20yo daughter is his number 1 fan, absolutley loves him and has spent the whole year telling me he would prove me wrong. For the past few weeks she has been giving me the "I told you so" bit, to which I have responded with "It takes more than one or two games to prove he can play". Well, after Saturday night I conceded, I thought he was great on Brennen and without his close checking, I think Brennen would have run riot.
Just a question to all the Bevan knockers, how many of you have watched a lions game in it's entirity since the mid year break? Brennen has been AMAZING and for Bevan to control him as he did, well I don't think Roos would be too upset.

That's a massive exaggeration. He was absolutely awesome against Collingwood. Very good against the Kangaroos. Abysmal against Hawthorn (last week).

His season average is 14 poss, 1 goal per game.

He's very much an up and down player - always has been. Bevan did a very good job on him, but don't underestimate how much Brennan contributed.

NMW, Jewels CLEARLY stated 'since the mid-year break'.

Can you trot out the stats for that period please?

                  Yes, I saw that.

Since then we have (disp, goals)

                  16, 2
                  11, 4
                  16, 2
                  17, 1
                  15, 7
                  23, 1
                  7, 0

                  Ave 15.0, 2.4

If you exclude his absolutely amazing game against Collingwood, which was freakish, the rest of his games average 13.7, 1.7, which is not too dissimilar to his season average (14.2, 1.1).

So, yes he's been very good since the mid-year break, but not "amazing" - his inconsistency is more amazing. He's just about the most underperforming player relative to talent in the competition.

The really interesting thing about Bevos stifling of Brennan is the physical mismatch - 183cm up against a 192 cm player who is 11 kilos heavier. Brennan takes the third highest number of marks for the Lions, just behind Brown. He averages five marks a match. He got one on Bevo. Probably Tadhg would have got Brennan if he had played. Bevo beating Brennan was outstanding
