Apart from Goodes, every one of our midfielders have a distinct lack of skill or speed. Not one can consistently hit a player on the lead like Buckley did last night and they are too slow to run and carry the ball and finish from 50m out.
Jude Bolton falls over all the time. Cant turn otherwise he hits the deck. When on the ground has no idea how to give a handpass off. He should look at some tapes of Sam Mitchell.
Swan song I dont think you can downplay what we did in 05 and 06 like that. 2005 we were in a group of 4 absolute quality teams in WCE, Adelaide St Kilda and ourselves and we hit our straps and won a flag. And we deserved that flag no end- we were the best team in the final series overall and right up there for most of the year. There was nothing flukey or lucky about 2005 imo! (Except maybe Nick Davis saving us against Geelong!)
Last year wasnt as impressive but we still were a very good football team. This year things have changed- a combination of a number of factor have meant what worked in 05 and 06 for us no longer works, and this combined with poor returns from several key players and some injuries to important players have meant the competition has passed us by. Just like it did to Brisbane in 2005- they had the sense to see it and already are showing that they will reap the reward of Matthews policy of rebuilding properly and quickly. Whether we do the same is another question yet to be answered, but I would love to think we will.
We might hold a candle to Brisbane in terms of quality players and coaching, but by hell we gave them plenty a mighty scare throughout their reign and while we might not be on the same level, I dont feel you write off our 2005 success as pure luck. Our class of 2005 would give the Lions a mighty run for there money that I am sure of! Not in the same class, but certainly a great footy team none the less.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

That was incredibly lucky and without that we'd have achieved nothing.

I thought we looked a far better team for much of 2006.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
