LOL, an excellent point. But anyway, back on topic, I think Schneider is one of those players who can frustrate at times, but you keep him in the team because of what he can do. He has kicked over 20 goals this year, which is a good acid test for a player of his type, though you'd like to see him averaging closer to 1.5 or even 2 goals a game (tough when the team doesn't kick that many goals, I know, but a guy can dream!)

Agree I think Schneider has been OK. Got caught a bit in the first Q but was not alone there. He and Goodes were the only ones attempting to break the Collingwood midfield flood that Roos falls for every time we play Collingwood.

              Sneider is a worry

My 2 issues with Schneider are -

He misses too many easy shots either on the run or set (such as taking MOL's kick). Sure he gets good goals but its the easier ones that are an issue. The one against the Pies was really a defining moment for the team.

He also doesn't seem to be disappointed when he misses important or easy shots at goal.

Secondly, he is no where near fit enough. He runs out of steam during key times of the match when we need him. He goes missing too often..

For a key goal kicking crumming forward, both these are "critical" flaws in his all round skills.

He needs to show consistency every week now that he is older and wiser and a young veteran in the team.

If you look at Davis as an example, he doesn't get many kicks but when he does, 9 times out of 10, they are goals.

Bottomline is that Schneider needs to extract the digit, get fitter and next season kick the goals each time. The team relies on him to make a difference.

The idea of trading is that you need to give up something decent to get something. I mean we could trade Bevan, but what would we get? Pick 75?

Least if we traded Schneider we would give ourselves of getting a decent draft pick or player.

That doesn't mean trading players for the sake of trading players, though.

Almost any player is tradeable if you are trying to secure a specific player, either because it is quality player who specifically wants to leave his club and wants to come to Sydney, or because you are targeting a specific player to fill a need. If you want that player enough, you'll give up whichever player the trading club requests (within reason).

Alternatively, if you perceive that the draft pick you might get for a player is significantly higher than his value within the squad you might think about it (eg if another club is willing to pay a significant amount because it addresses a specific need they have).

Or you might even trade a top notch player if he will secure you a top 10 pick because you perceive that he's still got a few quality years left but you're in a "rebuilding phase".

Or you might trade if you have a surplus of one kind of player.

Those latter three scenarios do not apply to Schneider and the first of them won't arise until clubs start the trading process.

There is simply no point in shopping around a "good ordinary" player, as Schneider is at the moment, who is pretty much an automatic first team selection just for the sake of it. He'd probably get a second round pick at best and the chances of the player you select with that pick eventually becoming as good as Schneider do not warrant the trade.

After Micky O took that great mark, Schneider needed to go back and kick a goal. His poster resulted in a loss of momentum and the Pies took it straight down the other end to goal. Good players kick those goals.

1 tackle as well. For a little bloke in a team that is known for tackling that's not good enough. He needs to work harder when we don't have the ball.

I know there are many others who had poor games, however Schneider is at his prime, has the talent and now just needs to apply it.

He needs a few big games for the rest of this year and really stand up in the finals. If not, maybe a useful bit of trade bait?
yeah i thought that as well during this year. he came out as this enigma in '04 a really exciting goal sneak. i remember comparing him to amon and thought he was better than amon and would go further. but it's turned out that buchanan has excelled and turned into an inspirational hard nut and sneaky has been a bit disappointing and his polish and finish hasn't been up to his class.

I can only hope that Schneider reads this and that it has the desired effect of riling him enough to lift his game.

                          Nail. Head. Hit.

Most people agree that Schnieder is (or should be) an asset to the team. He needs to lift his game and take it to another level.

I've been very disappointed with Schneider this year as I think he's shown some really good signs, but hasn't done enough. Given his skills, by this stage of his career he should be having a big impact on games, which he rarely does.

Hear hear! Whether as a crumber, link man, part-time midfielder or defender on quick small forwards he can be excellent. But we don't see enough of it. And when he lapses into mug lair I go ballistic.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
