They become 'old sayings' rather than axioms because they're often wrong.

Do you believe all gossip and rumour is essentially true?

No - it exist in NSW and I assume in other States - gist is that you can't use the excuse that you found something (finders keepers) for not reporting your "find".

One of the classics is where you might say you found a big pile of money. You are obligated to report it. Same with these records.

Really. A rolling stone doesn't gather any moss, and people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. There's two that are right.
I'm a firm believer in old sayings.

As to whether or not I believe all gossip and rumour is essentially true, no - not at all.
You can't deny in this case that there "is smoke". The "smoke" being the fact that a CLUB, according to found and/or stolen medical records, may or may not have a few of their players in rehab for what is assumed or alleged as "substance abuse" (to coin a WC phase).
The "fire" is the fact that the AFL and the club have pulled out all stops to make sure that the news is not broadcast further.

        Doesn't really matter anymore.

The longer that the AFL/Club involved DON'T come out and say something, the longer their reputation is sullied.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

            How surprising...

As to whether or not I believe all gossip and rumour is essentially true, no - not at all.
'Old sayings' suggest that you do...

Yes, there is 'smoke'. So what? Doesn't mean there is fire. Even if there is, disclosing private medical records is wrong. That is what the AFL and the club are focussing on at the moment and that seems to be part people erroneously have an issue with. People like you are simply chasing gossip and scandal.

That the AFL drug policy is a shambles is virtually beyond question. However, that has not been at the centre of controversy in this case.

            Doesn't really matter anymore.

The longer that the AFL/Club involved DON'T come out and say something, the longer their reputation is sullied.
Why should they come out and comment on stolen private medical records? To satisfy sticky-beaks like you?

Yes, the AFL drug policy is a shambles and it shouldn't be beyond question ... that's what Peter Meakin was saying. I agree with him.
Unfortunately, the fact that the POLICY is not at the centre of this controversy is probably what is at fault here - not the poor mugs in rehab (good on them for doing something about their alleged perceived problems).

Why can't the AFL just change the rules? They have no problem messing around with the game ... step outside of the circle I say.

They should put a total ban on "performance enhancing" - "recreational" - "illicit" - "illegal" substances ... whatever you want to call them. That'll put a stop to any rumour and innuendo.

They can't because the AFLPA doesn't like to bend over and take it.

So the AFLPA want their members to be able to imbibe in "recreational" and "illicit" drugs outside game time?

Maybe we need a royal commission into the AFLPA.

Well, they know players are doing it. It's my take that they don't think it's really anyone's business.

It's my take that it SHOULD be AFLPA's and the clubs business (probably last of which, the public's business). They're not doing their members / players any favours.

Seriously, taking this crap is really bad for you. You might be ok today, just like LSD was back in the 60's (for instance), but as we now know, you suffer the after-effects of LSD for years and years after talking it (e.g. flashbacks).

We have no idea what effect eccys and ice are going to have in the future.

If a player gets get busted, the AFLPA doesn't want them to lose their job, they want them to get treatment. It's a massive favour.

It's not like playing AFL is going to be your job forever and ever amen - other sportspeople get kicked off teams for doing less. At most, as an AFL player you probably have 10 year lifespan, more - if you're better than average. I know people who have lost their jobs because they've turned up to work on drugs/alcohol.

What if a player doesn't get busted. What favours are they doing him?
