    the obivious

BEVAN has to go,cant we send the Swans heirachy all the comments on this guy. We were coming back until he made that ??? error I think we had them on the run at that stage, 3 poimts and then bang bang bang. He has gone backwards fast since his rookie year. McVeigh is another who should go and I think Benny and Leo should think about retiring. WE have to take stock and turn our list over which we should have done last yr.

I wont be surprised if magic calls it quits during off season.

But we are in serious need of some big youngsters to bring up, most of the other sides have some awesome exciting young players.

eg; westhoff from Port, cloke and thomas from collingwood, lance franklin, too many to go into but you get the point.

You can't expect Goodes to carry this team all the time it's about time we get some quality players and even if that means trading any or all of crouch, barry, LRT (he's a clumsy goof), hall, matthews, jude bolton.

The only guys who have done well this year are o'loughlin, o'keefe, goodes, malceski, kirk and it's around these core guys we should build from.

Malceski has been a revelation and Goodes is a total freak of a player. Schmidt has also been quite good but no other yound player has done well.

Whatever I just hope he's not on the list for 2008.
What he said. Piss Matthews off too.

trade B2 oh my goodness some people are strange!!!!

Looking at the list, my take on it is:

          Keep:

C Bolton- had a shocker tonight but fully deserves AA in my opinion and will be the lynchpin of our defence for years to come.

B Kirk-he might not have too much more footy in him but at least you know he will put in 100% and give it a red hot go and do plenty of good things every week. His experience will be critical if we blood young players.

A Goodes- Abosolute champion and had a superb last 8 weeks or so to the season. A lynchpin for our next tilt at the flag in a few years.

T Kennelly- hopefully can get fit as gee we missed him big time when he was out and is Irish quality, just like that fine drink from there!

Barlow- I like what I see but feel he should if going to be developed become a position player in the defence somewhere... not sure he has what it takes to play in the midfield as such.

Malceski- needs to play in midfield but will be a star- didnt do a lot tonight but never got much time on the ball either. Has a superb ability to deliver the ball into the forward 50 and must become the go to man to get it into the 50 as his delivery when on song is up there with the best.

O'Keefe- Disappointing 2nd half to the season but absolute super player none the less. Would love to see him become our permament CHF.

Ablett- he is a good player I feel and definetly has been missed when injured.

Dempster- I feel he is underrated by many and hard done by this year when dropped. Certainly has plenty of potential but I guess is already 23 so maybe the boat has already sailed??

LRT- I still fail to comprehend why he was missing for so much of the year. Sure he struggled to come back from injury but he showed in 05 and parts of last year he has the quality required to be a very good player.

Jack like what I saw of him when he got his chance, certainly should get some game time next year- and I mean more then a couple fo games roosy!

O'Loughlin A wonderful servant of the club and should retire if he feels the time is right but Id welcome him to stay. Had a good season overall and still has plenty of passion and has been deadly accurate. Looked far better often this year when Hall wasnt there.

Schmidt Very harshly done by I feel when dropped did a lot of good things in his matches I feel and could become a very useful player.

Grundy Again showed he has potential but a decision has to be made soon as to what his role will be. He is either going to make it playing up forward or down back, not both. Coaching staff have to decide which one and stick with it. I feel he will probably make it as a defender more then as a forward.

Buchanan or Schneider- see trade section.

Laidlaw Again in his limited opportunity showed potential and I thought looked ok. Definetly worth some more time to prove himself and hopefully will get that in 08.

[B]Richards[/B Not a great season by a long length but did ok in patches and could provide good value if he can develop some consistency.

Phillips I really fail to understand why he hasnt been given more of a go. Maybe he will go at the end of the season but I really feel he could make a good crumbing forward. Worth a proper shot at the top level I feel to see if he has what it takes to make it.

Everitt Did some good things but a lot of bad things as well this year. Have no choice as I expect Jolly will go and we simply need him there for experience and can give plenty of help to younger ruckmen coming through.

          Retire
Leo Barry- was average last year and frankly an also ran this year. I think the game has passed him by and he should leave before its too late. A great servant to the club but has given all he can give.

Crouch see Leo Barry. Game has passed him by. Simply cant do the job anymore.

Matthews Far too one dimensional and just average this year. Never had a good game in my opinion and adds very little. Nobody would want him on the trade I dont feel so should be gently nudged into retirement.

          Trade Bait

Jolly It has looked pretty clear to me that he has been playing in body but not spirit as his mind is elsewhere. A good player on his day but wants to go so we should take the opportunity to get a decent return on him.

N Davis Kicking very acurately but doesnt look interested. Not helped by Roos trying to turn him into a half back or something along those lines. Work rate simply isnt there. Will go down as a club legend for that fateful night in 05 but simply I think we should see what we can get for him, we need to move on.

J Bolton Very poor all year and hasnt done a lot for mean the last 2 years. Probably find a silly melbourne club that would offer something decent in return, so definite trade bait in my book.

Schneider/Buchanan Keep one and trade the other. Too much the same to me, and both very hot and cold. Not sure we really need both in the squad. Could get an almost reasonable return in a trade deal if we were lucky.

          Delisted
Vogels- Obviously is never going to get a proper chance so why have him taking up the spot on the list.
          Doyle- Far too injury prone.
Brennan- in my opinion is simply terrible but I wouldnt be saddened if I was proven wrong.
Bevan- for every good thing he does he does 10 bad things. Just not good enough imo.

          Uncertain
Hall Had a terrible year plagued by injury but Im not sure whether he can get it right when he gets fit. Will be kept but Im not sure its the best decision that could be made.

Fosdike Just dont know what to think about him, has a good game then 2 bad ones then 2 good ones. So hot and cold in my book, but I think probably a keep.

McVeigh As soon as he impresses me with a good game he goes missing the next week. I think he could be a quality player, but not sure whether he will ever become it. Maybe trade bait but will most likely stay

Paul Roos Im afraid it looks like he is a one trick pony. Now I will never slate him as he masterminded a flag and very very near miss for B2B, but not sure he is the man needed to rebuild the team. Definetly like to see him stay in the coaching staff, maybe as director of footy with Longmire as coach. Also need to look at all the other staff- esp Longmire as the Midfield has been woeful many times this year and I think it can be put down to have a forward as the midfield coach. Need to do some swapping round/ changes i feel.

Thats my take on the players Ive seen enough of to rate. Probably total trash talk but I feel we need to make serious changes to minimise the time on the slide. If we do it right by 2010 we could be well and truly on the way back up and looking towards another shot at getting close to winning the big one. We also need to take the opportunity to change our game style- keep the accountability but look to become a more attacking orientated team.

Why would you trade Davis and keep Ablett or Grundy or Richards?

Hall comes into the team and Davis gets ignored. Nothing new there.

Leo Barry. sigh. My 86yo grandma wouldnt have got run down by Josh Fraser last night. I know he's trying to generate run in the absence of Kennelly and Malceski moving up the ground, but geez, if he can't outrun a ruckman, he really should stop trying.

Fosdike probably had his best season in the red and white so I have no idea why you're uncertain about him.

i just hope we don't do what we did late 90's and get washed up has-beens like tingay or daffy

if we trade jolly, jude, ablett etc...... we should try and get picks for the future - i don't like what roosy said last night about topping up the list

lol hammo im uncertain on Fosdike cause i barely ever notice what he does.... I wouldnt be unhappy to see him stay but i was thinking maybe if a decent offer was made it might be accepted. Just never notice him is more then anything- I was going to put him in the keep list but never really notice him lol and wasnt sure what to think!

As for trading Davis over ablett or grundy or richards... well I think you would still get a good return on Davis whereas youd be lucky to get anything for the other three. I do agree that Davis has been unlucky that they dont seem to want to kick to him, but for every game he leads well there are just as many games where he really has been missing in action. I wouldnt again be unhappy if he stayed, but if we arent going to play to him we may as well trade while he still has some value then let him rot away for another season or two as we continue to struggle.

totally agree Punter, no way can we top up the list and have another shot at the flag it just wont work. The only way that could possibly work would be if we did trade and get some draft picks and have the luck someone like Collingwood has had with a couple of the young blokes having really good first years and the rest of the squad put in a big year. We have to look to the future, not try and preserve what now really is the past imo. But its obvious from what Roos said that we will trade noone (Maybe Jolly) and go in with the same list that couldnt do the job this year and wont do it next year in its current form

It is ridiculous to contimplate getting rid of a large number of players from a team that has just lost an elimination final.
Our midfield needs a boost.Kirk, whist he is brave and gets the ball, must improve his disposal.Schneider has not come on,8 disposals is pathetic in a finals match.Thank God we have Superman Goodes.
As far as trades go,if we were to look at anyone who would get us a good return,Jude Bolton is extremely well thought of in Melbourne and I think he would be a wanted player at other clubs.
We must not recruit any more seasoned players.

Why? - for some of them it seems to be a last gasp in a downward spiral.

We may have made the finals but we're on a downward slide. Little talent of note coming into the seniors and the old brigade will only go downhill further from here.

Contrast to Collingwood last year who also lost an elimination final but are clearly on an upward swing.

Port Adelaide is a good template for Roos to follow and look at how many premiership players they got rid of after 2005.
