    Well I was right...

Way back when when we lost to St. Kilda and I said it was all over if we didn't change the midfield/game plan.

What happened tonight? Completely beaten all over the ground and in every department.

We went one on one and were smashed. Two of our players beat their opponents. TWO OUT OF TWENTY TWO!!! (Goodes and O'Loughlin, in case you missed it.) Every single other player was somewhere between adequate and smashed.

67 tackles to 35. A complete and utter embarrasment. They should actually be ashamed of their effort. A disgrace. Even forgetting about the brain fades when under standard what was only standard AFL pressure, to not be able to be even NEAR Colliungwood when they had the ball was just disgraceful.

Anyway to return to the title of my thread, what I said all those months ago was that without a proper midfield we were stuffed. AND I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!!! Tonight the usual suspects did absolutely nothing (McVeigh, Fosdike, Schneider, J. Bolton) Mathews kept his man quiet...but so what, really? We need to actually TRY to win games. We need to get to the ball first. Our midfielders (except Goodes and Kirk) just watched.

I'm going to say this loud and clear.

McVeigh is not actually any good
Fosdike is not actually any good
Mathews is not actually any good
Jude Bolton is not actually any good
Schneider is not any good unless the team is winning

Buchanan, Moore and Schmidt are genuinely good players but they don't get selected because they go out to WIN the game. They might actually get a run in the Collingwood side. None of the other five would even get a sniff. They weren't fit to lick the Black and White bootlaces tonight.

"People" talk about the "pride" of the Swans yadda, yadda, yadda. But our midfield sucks. It is full of several players who are just not good enough and it is an indictment of Roos that he has kept selecting them all year when it has been bloody obvious they the reason it wasn't working was not because they couldn't make it "click." It was because the players he kept selecting were crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    To elaborate

    Tonight.......

Bevan was second rate...smashed by Buckley, plus brain explosions.
    Richards was second rate
    Jolly was second rate
    McVeigh was second rate
    Fosdike was second rate
    Jude was second rate
    Schneider was second rate
    Everitt was disgusting
    Hall was shocking
Davis was locked out of the game because no one kicked it to him
    C. Bolton and Barry and Malceski and O'Keefe were beaten but at least they get credit for previous efforts.
Barlow probably has a future but was nevertheless the lowest ranked player on the ground.

And another thing....tonight we were completely and comprehensively out-coached. Why did nearly every Collingwood fifty entry see empty paddocks with a leading forward while nearly every Sydney entry saw the Swans forwards standing WATCHING BEHIND BEHIND BEHIND BEHIND their opponent.

    Are they just UNBELIEVABLY STUPID??????????

And don't start me on the complete inability to shepherd (two goals, thank you very much) or at least get a hurried possession away before being tackled (another three goals, thank you very much).

    Our Midfield coach sucks.
Our Forward coach is completely useless
Our Defensive coach is clearly reading from a very outdated playbook.

I said (to return to my thread beginning) after the Saints game that this was a positive time, because we could now rebuild (and possibly save this season).

I may as well be a Leonard Cohen record 'cos nobody listens to me!!!

Anyhoo...heres to an ATTACKING and POSITIVE 2008 and a really good top ten draft pick

    Cheers
    Jono

The disrespect that Davis gets is the biggest tragedy of all. If he's played at FF next year, where i've named him in my "Starting 22 for 2008" thread, and our players actually kick to him, we'll already be 3 times more attacking than we are now.

Schneider was injured - should never have been picked.

If Schneider was injured, then why risk him when Buchanan would have been raring to go. Silly decision.

I wasn't at the game, so it's hard to tell what's happening behind the play. I note that they tend not to kick to Davo. Did Davo make himself available to get the ball, or was he just standing around waiting for it? I think he only had about five touches.

Why can't they ALL be like Goodsey (who probably had a few clangers himself, but they were redeemed).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

And has already been anointed as our next coach. God help us if our midfield is the result of his coaching abilities.

Nor was i, but even on TV you can see they go straight past him atleast 4-5 times a game, probably more. He's our best kick at goal, by a mile, and should be our permanent full-forward.

Davis leads most of the game. And generally he sensibly leads up the middle. They usually look to the pockets.

When he does have position on his opponents and they kick it to him, the idiots kick it to his opponents' side.

Michael Voss' comments were spot on... Davo should've been given more time in the midfield.
